OXFORD, Miss. - No. 22 (Sports Weekly/ESPN) Ole Miss (27-13) will open a two-game, home-and-home series with Mid-South rival Memphis (10-28) Tuesday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m., at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field. The two schools will also meet Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m., at AutoZone Park in downtown Memphis.
Wednesday's game is the rescheduled contest from March 22 that was postponed due to inclement weather.
Ole Miss is coming off a 2-1 series win over Georgia this past weekend in Oxford, snapping a string of three straight Southeastern Conference series losses. Memphis dropped 2-of-3 this past weekend at East Carolina in a Conference USA series, and the Tigers have lost 15-of-17 overall entering Tuesday's game with the Rebels.
Junior right-hander Anthony Cupps (5-3, 5.80 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Rebels on Tuesday, while Ole Miss has not announced a starter for Wednesday's game. It will be Cupps' first start since April 10 against Alabama.
The Rebels currently rank third in the SEC with a .314 team batting average and their 47 home runs ranks fourth in the conference.
Junior right fielder Brian Pettway leads the SEC with a .429 batting average. He has recorded a hit in 36-of-40 games and has 11 home runs and 41 RBI. Sophomore left fielder Mark Wright is hitting .360 with nine home runs and 32 RBI, while junior first baseman Stephen Head is hitting .311 and leads Ole Miss with 12 home runs and 42 RBI.
Ole Miss' .973 team fielding percentage is tied for first in the SEC with South Carolina, and the Rebels' 41 double plays also tops the conference.
The Tiger pitching staff has a 6.96 team ERA and opponents are batting .329 against them with 52 home runs.
The Tigers are fielding .943 as a team, having been charged with 85 errors in 38 games.
