Ole Miss throws their name in the hat

Greg McElroy QB, Southlake, TX) - Last season, Chase Daniels set all kinds of state records at Carroll (5A) as the signal caller for the Dragons. Chase had over 4,000 yards of offense. In the meantime, Greg was waiting patiently for his turn. It looks like that patience has paid off, as Greg has received scholarship offers from Ole Miss, Texas Tech, Kansas, and UTEP after strong performances during his spring practices and combines.

The following information was revealed during our interview with Greg McLeroy:

What is your current height, weight, and forty time? "I am up to 6' 3", 212 now. I just got back from a combine where I was timed at a 4.86. It was timed electronically, so it should be pretty accurate."

What are your strengths at QB? "My biggest strength is just my knowledge of the game and my work ethic."I work hard on my arm strength and accuracy. I would say I have decent arm strength and above average accuracy. My biggest strength though is my knowledge of the game and work ethic."

What most are you working on? "I just need to gain some trust from teammates. Personally, I would say my accuracy, decision making, and pocket presence are the things I am most working on."

Trust? "Last year, I was a back up to Chase Daniels. I think a lot of my guys do have trust in me, but I want them to know that I will be there for them no matter what. I am not only talking about on the field but off the field too."

Which schools are currently recruiting you the hardest? "Right now, it would have to be Texas Tech, Stanford, Ole Miss, Kansas, UTEP. Really, I get a lot of letters from every where. It is nothing more from one to the other."

Any early offers? "Ole Miss is my newest offer. They offered me the other day. Kansas, UTEP, and Texas Tech have also offered me too."

Which schools are currently calling you weekly? "Weekly, gosh, lets see, Colorado, Texas Tech, Stanford, Ole Miss, Texas, UTEP, Kansas, and North Carolina."

Which coach has stood out the most during your calls? "Really, I think I like what they all had to say. I enjoy each one of them. But if I had to name a coach, it would be Coach Mazzone from Ole Miss. He has a good personality. But, like I said, I like certain aspects with every coach."

Which schools are now in your Top 5? "My top five, in no particular order, would have to be Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Texas, and Stanford."

What all do you like about Texas Tech? "They were my early favorite. I got my first letter from Tech, so they have that over everybody else. I really Coach Leach and the offense they run. It is a really great place if you are a QB. That is why I like them so much."

What are Oklahoma's positives? "I just love their overall program. They have an amazing program. They are in the running for a national championship every year. I would love to be a Sooner because they are so good and dominate."

How did you become interested in Ole Miss? "Because of Coaches Mazzone and Orgeron. I met Coach Orgeron last summer when I went to the USC camp, so there is some familiarity there. I like his staff at Ole Miss. It would be a great place for me to be. It is in the SEC, and they are bringing in the offense from N.C. State. I do not know, I just love Ole Miss."

What attracts you to Texas? "I have grown up a Longhorn fan. They are an awesome school. Coach Brown is doing a great job. I will have a chance to play early if I go there. They are kind of like Oklahoma, in that they are always in the Top 5 and competing for the National Championship year in and year out."

And Stanford? "Their offensive line coach coached my dad. I use to live in California and they were my favorite school growing up in California. They provide an opportunity for me to get a great education, and I like the atmosphere up there. Their campus is beautiful too."

Have you taken any unofficial visits this Spring? "I have been up to Kansas, Texas Tech, Stanford. I have been to a lot of different schools, just not for football, like SMU and Alabama. I am probably going to go to Ole Miss sometime soon with my dad just to see what it is like down there. I might go check out a couple of more schools too."

Greg carries a 3.9 Core GPA (ranked 84th in his class) and a 1710 on the SAT. McElroy will continue to retake the SAT test until he reaches his goal, which is in the 1900's.
