The following information was revealed during our interview with Derrick Odom:
are your strengths on the field? "I really do not know. I am well rounded
in everything I do so it is hard for me to pin point one thing. I am not saying
that in a cocky way, so please do not misinterpret what I am saying. I guess if
I had to name something, it would be my hands and my speed. I have grown up in
track, so I have always had good speed."
What did you run in the 40 at the Ole Miss camp? "A 4.5 flat. I ran that this morning at the LSU camp too."
What are you working on to take your game to the next level? "My footwork and technique. You never can get good enough at either."
How long have you been starting for Callaway? "Ever since I got there in the 9th grade. I played all season every year."
What was Callaway's record last season? "We went 8-3 and made it to the 2nd round of the 4A playoffs."
What were your stats for the season? "I believe I had 103 tackles, 12 sacks, and 1 interception. On fumbles, I can not remember exactly, but I think I had 6 recoveries and 12 forced fumbles."
Any awards? "I made All-District, All-Metro, and some State awards, but I am not sure on that."
Have you received any early scholarship offers? "LSU, Ole Miss, Southern Mississippi, Iowa, and I can not even think of the rest of them. I think Alabama, but I am not exactly sure. I can not think of them all."
Are there anymore colleges that are heavily recruiting you who have not offered? "Yes sir, Auburn, Tennessee, and Mississippi State."
Which schools are catching your eye right now? "Basically, I am watching all of them so I can fully evaluate them."
Do you have group of schools you are watching? "Not really, just looking at everyone basically."
What will you evaluate with each school? "All around, especially academic wise. I will look at their graduation rate. I want to graduate. Everything else will be sports wise."
Like what? "Their coaching staff mainly. How well I can communicate and get along with them. The facilities too."
camps have you been to and where do you go nextt? "I have been to the Nike
Camp that was up at Ole Miss a few weeks back, and I went to the Ole Miss Sr camp
yesterday. This morning, I went to LSU, and I believe I am going to Auburn next
and then to USM. I believe that is all I am going to go to."
Talk about your experience at the Ole Miss camp? "I like it up there. As far as the camp, I saw a lot of talent out there. They encouraged me to do better and stay on top of my game."
Were you able to communicate with the Ole Miss staff? "Oh yea, me and Coach Slocum get along real well. I was with him the whole day basically. He moved me to strong side, middle, and weak side linebacker. He was trying to see what all I could do."
What is your natural position? "I can play all of them. I play on the outside right now, but I would probably say strong side linebacker is my best spot."
What did you think of Ole Miss' facilities? "I enjoyed it. That is where I ran my first 40. I liked Ole Miss' facilities a lot. They have everything I need to get better. They are the first school I have checked out. I have not been to too many places, just Ole Miss and LSU."
How was your experience at the LSU camp? "I did not get a chance to stay the full day. I just worked out with them in the morning. But, I enjoyed it too.
I talked to the coaches, and I learned what I needed to know. They are a good school, all around school, as well as Ole Miss."
Were you able to communicate with the LSU coaches? "Yes sir, they have a good staff too."
