Texas prospect visits Ole Miss

Franklin Mitchem, a 6-2 205-pound strong safety from Klein, TX, took an unofficial visit to Ole Miss over the weekend and was impressed with what he saw. While he said it was "too early to tell" what direction he's leaning, the Rebels are definitely in the picture.

The list of schools already interested in one Franklin Mitchem, a touted strong safety prospect from the Longhorn State, is already impressive and recruiting has just begun for him.

"My first unofficial visit was to Ole Miss," Mitchem said upon returning home from a weekend visit in Oxford. "I will visit Texas Tech Friday (July 1) and Arizona and Arizona State on the 21st and 22nd of July. Those four have offered scholarships at this point.

"Oklahoma State has also shown interest, but they have not offered me and I have no plans to go see them this summer. Really, I'm just starting the recruiting process - I want to absorb as much as I can."

Mitchem's thoughts on Ole Miss? All positive.

"My visit went well," said the 6-2 205-pounder who runs a 4.7 40. "I saw a lot of things that turned my head. The campus is very nice and I was very impressed with the indoor practice facility. I liked that full indoor field a lot and the weight room has everything you need to improve."

Mitchem, who plans on majoring in "some area of business" and said he's already made his test scores for academic eligibility, believes he has a well-rounded game that will transition well to college.

"I've got good size and I believe I play the run and the pass equally well," he closed. "Right now, I'm getting some early looks at schools who have shown the most interest, but my main focus is not on recruiting, it's on my senior season. I want to help my team get a championship."
