Nominated for Preseason All-American Team (NJCAA)

Korey Raymond (DL, East MS CC, MS) - Korey was an All-State performer coming out of East St. John (LA).

He parlayed that success and signed with Auburn. After coming up short on meeting the NCAA grade requirements, Raymond enrolled at East MS CC last summer.

Raymond's freshman season at East MS CC was a trying one. He moved from defensive end to defensive tackle to offensive tackle to offensive guard all in one season. This year he hopes to settle in at defensive end and put up some big numbers.

Korey committed to the Rebels back in April. We called to see if that commitment is still holding "firm".

The following information was revealed during our interview with Korey Raymond:

What is your weight up to these days? "I am still 6' 4", 270."

Have you strength numbers improved since we last spoke? "Yes sir, I am benching 425 now, which is about 25 pounds more than I was before the summer started."

What are you doing to keep yourself in playing shape? "A lot of running (laugh). A lot of running and lifting."

Are you attending summer school at East MS CC? "Yes sir. I am taking nine hours this summer."

How are your classes going? "It is going good, but I can not wait to until I get out of here (laugh)."

Which will be? "In December, man, then I am gone to Ole Miss."

Still solid with your commitment? "Yes sir, I am going to sign with Ole Miss."

When did you last visit Oxford? "For their Spring game."

Anymore schools keeping in phone contact with you? "UAB keeps in touch with me, but nobody else really."

Did you know Coach Frank Wilson coming out of high school? "I knew of him, but I did not know him personally. I played basketball in high school too, and we use to play O. Perry Walker. I knew all the boys over there, and they liked him a lot."

Did that make it easier for you to commit to Ole Miss, having someone with Louisiana ties on their staff? "I guess you can say it did. I mean, Coach O is from Louisiana too. I like having some of my own people over there."

Thinking back on it; what was the number one reason you choose Ole Miss? "I like the coaches up there. They energize you. I like that because I play with a lot of intensity. I like the players too. When I went on my visit (Spring Game), I got to kick it with a lot of their players. I felt like I was one of them."

When do two a days start for you? "On August 8th."

First game? "We play Hinds CC on September 1st."

What are some of your personal goals for your sophmore season at East MS CC? "I just want to help our team get to the playoffs, and I want to try and get on the All-American Team. I got a letter today, and they informed me that I was a Preseason All-American nominee."
