Will have to miss his senior season

Derrick Davis (RB, Meridian, MS) - Derrick was voted 1st Team All-State in the State of Mississippi for all classifications as a junior. There was a reason for this award, as he rushed for 1, 927 yards and 24 TD's in Mississippi's largest classification, Class 5A. Not bad considering he also had to share the running duties with the #2 back in the South Hot 100 List, Cordera Eason.

Huge things were expected from these two entering the 2005 campaign, but things took a turn for the worst when Derrick tore his ACL and TCL during Spring drills. Davis later learned from the doctors that he will have to miss his entire senior season.

How is Derrick holding up under trying times?

The following information was revealed during our interview with Derrick Davis:

What is going on? "Nothing much, it is all about rehabbing right now."

What type of injury did you sustain? "I tore my ACT and TCL."

Where are you right now, in terms of your rehab? "I am walking right now without a cast. I start my strengthening part real soon. I will start jogging real lightly next week."

When are you expected to complete your rehab? "Probably until the end of December. I will be more than a 100% by then if I keep doing what I am doing."

Where are you mentally right now; having to deal with missing your senior season? "I am fine with it, you know. Sometimes God does things for a reason. It is all right. I sure would like to be on the Dandy Dozen Team (Clarion Ledger), but it was just not meant to be."

Have you heard from the Clarion Ledger about their Dandy Dozen team? "No, somebody called me before I was hurt and asked me how I would feel about being on their Dandy Dozen team. I told him it would be an honor. I got injured, and nobody ever called me back. I know I did not make it because they called Cordera Eason and told him he was on it."

Which colleges have kept in touch with you after you were injured? "Mississippi State, Auburn, Ole Miss, LSU, Tennessee, and West Virginia."

Any offers? "Pretty much all of the schools I just named have offered me."

All? "Auburn called me and said they were going to still recruit me heavily, so did Ole Miss, MSU, Tennessee, and the rest of them."

Who is showing you the most interest? "MSU, Auburn, and Ole Miss."

What stands out about Auburn? "Their running game. Just how they ran the ball last year."

Ole Miss? "I like Coach Orgeron. He is my style of coach. He is like the coach I have right now, real intense."

What about MSU? "I like Coach Croom. You will play if you are good enough."

Been on any unofficial visits this Spring and Summer? "Just to Ole Miss and MSU. I am going to try and go to Auburn later on this month."

Derrick carries a 3.1 GPA and an 18 on the ACT.
