South Hot 100 Member talks recruiting

Kentrell Lockett (DE, Boutt, LA) -'s #9 nationally rated defensive end has been keeping a low profile since he attended the scout combine that was held at Tulane in April.

"I have not been to any camps. I have just been lifting weights and running since the scout combine," noted Kentrell Lockett.

Lockett decided to concentrate on his strength instead of attending the various college camps and combines this summer. It looks like that decision has paid off, as Lockett is up to 650 pounds on his squat. His lower body strength is obvious when you watch the young man on film, as he has one of the more explosive first steps in the country.

"I squat 650 pounds now. Every time I tell somebody that. They do not believe me, so I have to take them to the weight room. Everyone is shocked when they see me do it."

A bad rumor was put out by an unnamed website that Kentrell had recovered from a knee injury. What did he have to say about the report?

"I have never been injured in my career. I have no idea where they got that from."

Have any new colleges come on to the scene?

"The latest is Florida. They have really been in contact through letters. They sent me a written offer not too long ago."

Who else is keeping in touch?

"I have been getting a lot of text messages from Southern Illinois. I get letters from West Virginia, Nebraska, Texas Tech, Ole Miss, and Florida. Those five schools, I get letters from every day."

Has Kentrell developed a tight bond with any of the college recruiters?

"I really have gotten to know the Ole Miss coaches well, Coaches Wilson and Orgeron. They are the only coaches that came to me school and talked to me. I know of Coach Wilson from his days at O. Perry Walker. He is straight. We talked last week."

Which schools are now at the top of Kentrell's wish list?

"Nobody, I am still wide open."

And what does Lockett's offer list now look like?

"The latest was Florida. The others are Nebraska, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and UCLA."

Lockett carries a 2.8 GPA.
