C.J. Bailey is waiting patiently

C.J. Bailey (CB, Moss Point, MS) - South Hot 100 Member, C.J. Bailey, has been busy on the summer circuit looking for scholarships. So far, he has attended college camps at Ole Miss, Alabama, USM, and LSU. He has also been to the Scout (Starkville), Nike (Oxford), and the Max Emfinger combines.

Although there is no doubting C.J.'s ability, Bailey's lack of experience and height has scared some college recruiters away.

C.J. has been the starting quarterback for Moss Point for the last two seasons, but they are going to give him a chance to start at corner this season.

Will this be the ticket for Bailey to earn a few more scholarship offers? Only time will tell the tale, but after watching the young man perform several times this summer, we would not bet against him.

The following information was revealed during our interview with
C. J. Bailey:

Tell us about your expectations for your senior season? "They are going to put me at corner this year, so I am really excited. I am going to return punts, kickoffs, and even play a little wide receiver. I am one of their better athletes, so they just want me to have the ball in my hands."

Will you play any QB? "If our 10th grader can not handle it, I will probably move over. But he is doing really good right now. What I like best about him is that he is not scared to stay in the pocket. He is a classic drop back passer, but we will probably run it the majority of the times."

Which colleges are you hearing from the most right now? "I have been talking to LSU a lot lately. They were real close to offering me after their camp, but they said they wanted to watch me a little more during my senior year. They like the 6' 0" foot corners, and I am only 5' 10". But the coaches who watched me at their camp wanted to offer me. There were a couple of coaches who did not attend the camp who like this other corner that is 6' 0". They want to see what both of us are going to do this year, and then they are going to make a decision. I really do think they are going to end up offering me when it is all over though."

Anybody else you are talking to? "I still talk to Ole Miss and Alabama a lot. I call them and they write me a lot. They are like LSU though. They want to see what I can do during the games. And I have just started to talk to Mississippi State. They did not think that I liked them for some reason. I told them that I was, and they have been writing me a lot ever since."

Who is coming after you the hardest? "USM. They have a lot of faith in me. Coach Hopson told me that I was his number one cornerback."

Would it be fair to say that these five schools are the ones you are keeping the closest eye on? "Yea, but my dad's good friend is good friends with some of the staff members at USC and Notre Dame. He is going to give them my tapes. I could be hearing from them pretty soon."

CJ carries a 3.5 GPA and a 17 on the ACT.
