Chaz Washington names his pecking order
The following information was revealed during our interview with Chaz Washington:
You go both ways? "Yes sir, I do."
Which position are being looked at the most? "Defensive tackle."
Is that what you prefer to play? "Yes sir, I love to hit."
What are your strengths on the field? "I am quick off of the ball. I am aware at all times, and I sack the QB a lot."
What most do you need to work on? "I worked out all summer with the strength and conditioning coach from the New England Patriots. His name is Tom Shaw. He improved my speed, and strength by leaps and bounds. I trimmed my forty time from a 5.0 to a 4.8 and I am squatting over 550 pounds now."
Where did you camp this summer? "Ole Miss and LSU. That is it. I am getting focused on the season. I want to get at least 20 to 25 sacks."
Which camp did you perform the best? "They both benefited me a lot. Coach Orgeron (Ole Miss) is a great guy. He taught me some stuff I can use this year, and Coach Dumbar (LSU) taught me a lot also. Both of them are great guys."
Which schools have stayed in contact with you all throughout the summer? "Miami, Oklahoma, USC, Ole Miss, and Tennessee."
You have offers from each of these schools? "Yes sir, all of them."
Who is coming after you the hardest? "Oklahoma. I have been researching them, and they have been my number one school for a while. They were the first school to offer me. I have been contacting them a lot and keeping in touch."
Who comes next in your pecking order? "Miami comes after Oklahoma. I went to camp there as a freshman. I enjoyed myself. They treated me right. They are second on my list."
Next? "My cousin just said it, USC. Coach Carroll down here this Spring. Jai Eugene and I talked to him one on one for like two hours. I really like him."
Who comes after USC? "Ole Miss. It is in the country. It would be a quiet place where I can learn my books and play book. I want to major in Business Communication, and they have a great business program. If I went there; I would learn what I need to know, stay focused and humbled, and keep my head in the right place."
After Ole Miss? "Tennessee. Lots of guys coming out of New Orleans go there. Chris Brown went there, and he said they have a great communications program."
Have you set up any official visits? "I set up one to Nebraska. I forgot about them. I would put them behind Tennessee. But Coach Blake is an awesome guy. I set up a visit there on September 3rd, when they play TCU."
What will you be looking for while you are on your visits? "I want to see if I can come in as a freshman and make an impact and start. I will look at how many Jr's and Sr's they have. I will also look at their Business Communication's program."
When will you most likely make a decision; before or after the season? "I have been selected to the Army All-American bowl. That is when I am going to make it, yes sir."
