Derrick Davis could be back this season

Derrick Davis (RB, Meridian, MS) - Derrick was voted Mississippi's 1st Team All-State running back for all classifications as a junior.Unfortunately, Derrick tore his ACL and TCL during Spring drills. But not all is lost, as the doctors are now telling Davis that he could possibly be back on the field by late OctoberWhatever the diagnosis is, know this, the kid is a player and will make some coach a very happy man on the next level.

Which coach could that be?

The following information was revealed during our interview with Derrick Davis:

How have you been? "Rehab is going great. I have started rehabbing my muscles. I am riding a bike and rebuilding my muscles. I even started jogging a couple of weeks back."

Which colleges are still keeping in contact with you the most consistently? "The most consistently, probably Ole Miss, Auburn, and MSU."

Are you hearing from anyone else? "Tennessee and LSU still write and call."

Who have you been calling on your own? "I have called the coaches at Auburn, Ole Miss, and MSU. I called LSU once, but I did not get in touch with them."

Have you been on any unofficial visits lately? "I went to MSU, Ole Miss, and Auburn's camps. I went with a family member to Ole Miss a couple weeks back. But other than that, I have been rehabbing."

What did Ole Miss say to you during your trip? "They are just telling me my scholarship is still good, and they want me to be the centerpiece for their running game for years to come. They also told me to keep rehabbing as hard as I can because they do not want me to redshirt if I go there. They need for me to play right away."

What is MSU telling you? "Pretty much the same things. They said my scholarship is still good and do not try to rush anything with my knee."

How about Auburn? "The same things. Just my scholarship is still good, and they want me and Cordera (Eason) to be like Cadillac and Ronnie Brown."

Are there anymore new schools that have come into the picture? "No sir, it is still basically Ole Miss, MSU, and Auburn."

I hear that you now may be able to return back to the field during your senior campaign? "Yes sir, Dr. Andrews from Birmingham told me that my rehab was going so good that he expects me back in late October to early November. He is going to call my coach when I am good to go."

Does this give you a since of new life knowing you have a chance to play during your senior season? "Yea, man, you do not know how good I felt when he told me that. I feel like I am on top of the world right now. My whole goal is to keep my grades up and rehab religiously so I can get back out on the field before the playoffs start. We took a tough loss last night. They needed me bad out there. I have to get back out there to help my teammates."
