Nathan Baker commits to Ole Miss

Nathan Baker (LHP, Cordova, TN) - Tennessee is blessed with a plethora of blue chip left handed pitching prospects. In fact, some insiders say that the Volunteer state could have 5 of the top 10 LHP in the country.

The Rebels were able to land one of the "fab 5" recently.

The following information was revealed during our interview with Nathan Baker:

What does your fastball top out at when you are on the mound? "I was clocked at 94 MPH last year a few times."

What do you average? "89 - 91 MPH."

Which pitches are in your arsenal? "I throw a fastball, curveball, and change up."

What is your out pitch? "My curveball."

What are your strengths on the mound? "I can throw a strike at any time. I have a pretty dominate fastball, and I throw a 12 to 6 curveball."

What most will you need to work on for the college level? "Hitting my spots."

How long have you been the ace for Cordova? "This will be my third year."

What is your record during your high school career? "I went 5-0 as a freshman, 4-2 as a sophomore, and 6-2 as a junior. They do not give us our ERA's or things like that."

Any awards? "I was named Newcomer of the Year my freshman season, Pitcher of the Year my sophomore year, and I did not receive any awards last season."

Which AAU team do you pay for? "The Dulin Dodgers."

Which showcase tournaments did you attend this summer? "I went a lot of places with the Dulin Dodgers this summer. We made the NABF World Series. I went to Wilmington (NC) for a East Coast Professional Showcase tournament. I got to fly out to Cleveland because I was invited to play in the CABA World Series. I played for Burgam Beaches."

I hear you committed to Ole Miss? "Yes sir, I committed to Ole Miss after I took my visit."

Who recruited you for Ole Miss? "Coach Dan McDonnell. He was the first guy to start sending me letters, and he was the only coach who came to my school to see me. He also came to a lot of my ball games at Cordova and Dulin"

What was his selling points? "They had the most players drafted in the Top 100, and they are coming off of a great season. They just keep getting better and better. They also need another LHP."

What else attracted you to Ole Miss? "It is somewhat close to home, and I think they have the best opportunity for me to win big out of all of the colleges who are around Memphis. They also gave me a great offer that I could not turn down. I just like their whole program and location."

Who else were you considering before you choose Ole MIss? "I was considering Arkansas, Alabama, Tennessee, and Auburn."
