The 3 star quarterback has had a big start for Oxford High. The Chargers have started the season with a 2 - 0 record with wins over Corinth and New Albany.
In the first game against Corinth, Matthew had 110 yards passing, 40 yards rushing, and 2 TD's in the first three possessions. Oxford built a big lead in the first half and Matthew was taken out of the game at half-time. Corinth made a huge comeback in the second half until they reinserted Matthew. He calmly drove the Chargers right down the field, and put the game away with a naked bootleg.
Game two was probably Malouf's "breakout" game for his career. You have to remember, Matthew was a WR and S until his junior season. Then he transferred from Pillow Aca to Oxford High to face stiffer competition. Malouf was moved to QB shortly after he transferred, but he was playing behind a third year starter and senior, Chris Cutcliffe. Matthew did get some playing time as a junior, as he threw for over 1,000 yards, but he was never the man from start to finish.
But against New Albany, Malouf flourished and had a big time game. Oxford went to a spread offense, which is perfect for Malouf's skills. Matthew had over 250 yards passing and 85 rushing in the first half alone. Matthew displayed the throwing skills and footwork that it takes to succeed on the next level.
Matthew Malouf will be one to watch from here on out.
