The following information was revealed during our interview with Ashton Henderson:
What are your strengths at CB? "I have a nose for the ball. I am always aware of the down and distance."
What are your working on for the next level? "I just want to give 110% at every practice so I will keep getting better and better. I feel like I am pretty sound with my techniques, but you can always get better."
Do you have your stats and awards from your junior campaign? "I do not. I know I had something like 7 interceptions last year. We went 7 - 4. I know that. My awards are at home (interview took place while he was at school). The next time you call, I will give them to you."
How is this season going for you? "Great, we are 6 - 1 and are playing good ball. We should go a long ways (in the playoffs)."
Did you take an official visit to Ole Miss this past weekend? "I did. I really enjoyed it. They welcomed me with open arms. They did not put any pressure on me, and I was really impressed with Coach Orgeron. He is very energetic, and I think they are going to be a great team for the next few years."
Who was your host? "Mike Espy and Brandon Jacobs. They were straight, real cool. They showed me around."
How did your meeting with Coach Orgeron go? "It went well. We talked about his program. He said I could be one of their best cover corners. He told me to keep working hard, and that he could not wait to see me in an Ole Miss uniform next year."
Did he offer you a scholarship? "They been offered me, but yes, he told me and my folks that I had a scholarship."
What was your response when he said he could not wait to see you in an Ole Miss uniform? "I told him as the season progresses, I will see some more schools, but it would be real hard for them to beat him out. I mean, somebody is going to have to show me a lot for me to not play for Coach Orgeron. But, I am going to take the rest of my visits first. He understood."
Which colleges are you going to take an official with? "Michigan State, South Florida, UCLA, and Arkansas."
Has each of these schools offered you a scholarship? "Yes sir, all of them have offered me. Vandy and Central Florida have offered me as well."
Do you have the dates set up with these schools? "Not yet, but I promised those schools that I would take a visit with them. I am probably going to get the dates straight this week."
Which colleges never miss a week in calling you? "Never miss a week? Wow, lets see, I would say UCLA, Ole Miss, Michigan State, UConn, Iowa State, and Arkansas. I can just about count on each of those schools calling me every week. If they have missed a week, I can not remember one."
Who is coming after you the hardest? "The hardest? Man, I guess it would be either UCLA or Ole Miss. They are both coming after me pretty hard."
The following information was revealed during our interview with Lincoln's head football coach, Coach Rice's Comments
Talk about Ashton as the person. "He is a good kid, a great student, and he works hard in the classroom. He is a soft spoken young man, off the field (laugh), as he is one nasty fellow on the field. He has what you call that mean streak in him. He Ashton is one of the hardest hitters I have been around."
Talk a little more about his game. "Well, he is a legit 6' 0" cover corner who moves around like he is 5' 8". He is a big guy that runs like a little guy. Ashton has great hips, and like I said before, he will knock the daylights out of you. I might be biased, but I think he is the best CB in Florida."
