Derrick Odom updates his top schools
The following information was revealed during our interview with Derrick Odom:
How did your game against Canton go this past Friday? "It went good. We played well. I had 10 tackles and a 16 yard TD catch (at tight end). I had to leave the game early in the 3rd quarter, but I should be ready for the next game."
What is Callaway's current record? "We are 4-3. We should be OK if we do not lose anymore games. The season is going pretty good though. We just need to close strong."
Have you received any new scholarship offers since we last spoke? "I got some in the mail from Tennessee, Auburn, and Alabama last week."
Have you had a chance to set up your official visits? "Yea, I have three set up. I am going to Alabama on December 9th, Ole Miss December 2nd, and Tennessee on January 14th."
Who else is in the running for your last two visits? "I have not decided yet. I will probably visit LSU and somebody else. I am not sure yet. Probably LSU and USM. I just do not know yet."
What happened with Iowa State? "Nothing. I just was not sure that I wanted to go way up there yet. It is still a possibility. I just have not narrowed it down yet."
How big of a jump has Tennessee, Alabama, and Auburn made in your pecking order now that they have offered? "They are all still in the running. I still have a long ways before I narrow it down, but yea, it definitely helped when I got that offer in my hand."
Have you had a chance to take in any college football games lately? "I just went to the Alabama/Florida game a few weeks back. That is the only game I have been to. I took the ACT test yesterday, so I could not go anywhere. I am probably going to the Ole Miss/LSU game. That is the only game I have given a lot of thought, but I am sure I will take some more."
How did your ACT test go? "I felt I did a little better. I have been studying in the areas I know I have weaknesses in. I think it is going to make a difference. I already have a 17 on it, but I want a little breathing room (laugh)."
Which college is coming after you the hardest? "No one school just stands out. They are all four about the same. Alabama, Ole Miss, USM, and Tennessee are recruiting me real hard. Everybody else has picked it up too. But I can not say that just one school is coming after me harder than everybody else."
What will you be looking at when you are trying to find the best school for you? "Now, first thing is always academics. But now I am looking at actual playing time in my first year. I guess that is the key thing now."
Which colleges give you the best chance to play next year? "As I look at them, USM is really lacking at LB's. They need somebody to come in and step up next year. There are 3 or 4 schools that really need help. USM, Alabama, and Ole Miss. Those are the ones that I have witnessed, or looked at on TV or their rosters. I am not sure about the others, but I know those three need help next season."
Derrick carries a 2.7 GPA and a 17 on the ACT.
