Rebels eye Memphis wide out

Duke Calhoun (WR, Memphis, TN) - Coach Orgeron ruffled a few feathers from the Memphis media when he announced that he wanted to "build a fence" around the City of Memphis.So far, Ole Miss has committed their targets from the Capital of the Blues and now they are looking to solidify their wide receiver class by signing Raleigh Egypt product, Duke Calhoun.

The following information was revealed during our interview with Duke Calhoun:

Where are you projected to play on the next level? "They are recruiting me as an athlete. I can play receiver or defensive back."

What are your strengths on the field? "At receiver, just beating my man. I catch the ball well, and I can go up and get the ball. At safety, I defend well and read the QB's well. I can also go up and get the ball on jump balls."

What most do you need to work on for the next level? "I am working on my bench press and my speed. Strength and speed really."

Did you attend any football camps this past summer? "I went to the Max Enfinger All-American camp in Dallas and the Memphis State senior camp."

How long have you been starting for Raleigh Egypt? "Since the 9th grade. Four years."

Both ways? "I started at safety since 9th grade and receiver since 10th grade."

What were your stats as a junior? "I had 17 TD's and 800 rushing and 400 receiving yards."

Any awards? "I was named Best of the Preps by the Commercial Appeal."

How is this year going for you? "I have around 900 receiving yards, 48 catches, and 14 TD's. I have also returned 3 interceptions for TD's."

Which colleges are contacting you be way of phone on a weekly basis? "Ole Miss, Kansas, Auburn, Memphis, Arkansas State, and Tennessee."

Who is coming after you the hardest? "Memphis and Ole Miss."

And you have been offered by? "Memphis, Ole Miss, Kansas, Arkansas State, and Tennessee State."

Have you had a chance to set up your visits? "No sir."

Who do you plan to visit? "Memphis and Ole Miss and probably Auburn."

Been on any unofficial trips? "I went down to Auburn when they played Ole Miss. I went to the Memphis/UAB game, and I went to a game of Arkansas State's and Tennessee State's."

Future unofficials? "I am going to the Ole Miss/LSU game in two weeks."

What do you like about Ole Miss? "It is just their family atmosphere. The way they treat me. I like their coaches a lot. I have a good friend that is already committed to them (Cassius Vaughan), and we kind of want to go to the same school. I do not know. There are a lot of things I like about Ole Miss."

What are Memphis' positives? "I like how they are going to need some help next year. They will need some WR's and it is close to home, real close to home (laugh)"

What will be the main factors in your decision? "I just want to go to where I feel real comfortable with their coaches and players. Just a place that feels most at home."
