The following information was revealed during our interview with Toby Gerhart:
Give us an update on your
season. "It is going good. I broke the California state rushing record a
couple of days ago. I have over 8, 600 rushing yards now."
you rushed for this season? "2, 219 yards and 25 TD's so far."
is your team doing? "We are 9-1, and we start the playoffs on Friday. We
can't wait to get started."
Did you make it in for your Ole Miss official
visit? "Yea I did. It went good, real good."
Did anyone accompany
you? "No one from my family, no sir."
What did you learn about
Ole Miss during your trip? "Lots of stuff. It is like a little small town.
All of the students know each other. Everybody knew each other, like a giant family.
The Grove was unbelievable. I have never seen anything like that before. SEC football
is crazy. It was totally different than anything I have ever seen."
you get a chance to talk to the Ole Miss baseball staff? "Yea, I met with
Coaches Bianco and McDonnell on Friday, and we went to the baseball field and
toured their locker room. Coach McDonnell shared a motivational tape they have
for all of their players. I toured all of their facilities."
Ole Miss' baseball facilities compare to the other schools? "I liked Ole
Miss' a lot. They kind of surrounded the field with seats all around it. They
have their students in the outfield. It is more fan supportive. It gives you more
of a home field advantage. I thought that was really neat. As far as their indoor
hitting facility and stadium, it was first class, top of the line."
was your host for the weekend? "Ryan Jones. He was a great host. Ryan was
easy to talk to. He shared his experiences with Ole Miss and introduced me to
a lot of people. I just had a good time with Ryan."
Did you feel like
you fit in at Ole Miss. "Yea, most definitely. I felt like I fit in at Ole
Miss and Oxford. It reminded me of my hometown. I come from a Southern/Western
town in California. Oxford reminded me of my home town."
How did your
meeting with Coach Orgeron go? ""My meeting with Coach Orgeron went
good. I went to his house and met with him. We just talked about his philosophy
in football, and he told me I would be a great fit. He did not put any pressure
on me at all."
Coach Orgeron did not ask you to commit? "No,
he never put any pressure on me what so ever."
Did he ask you where
Ole Miss stands with you? "No, he did not even ask that. He did not put any
pressure on me at all. He just asked me where all I was visiting."
does Ole Miss now stand with you? "They are right there. I had a good time,
real good time. I have not had a chance to talk to my parents yet. I am still
going to visit UCLA, Stanford, and Duke. I will then know for sure."
you now wish that your parents would have had a chance to see Ole Miss? "No,
they wanted me to experience it on my own. I am going to college, not them. They
want me to see things through my eyes, not theirs."
Where do you visit
next? "I have not set up any of the dates, but I am going to UCLA, Stanford,
and Duke for sure."
Thinking back on it; what stood out the most about
Ole Miss during your trip? "I think the SEC atmosphere. It is just a sports
loving town. The fans down there. Everybody I talked to were all into Ole Miss
sports. I thought that was really neat. I had a great time. I had always heard
how passionate the SEC fans were, and I got to experience it first hand. Who knows,
I just might get to experience it a whole lot more."
