Derrick Odom takes in Ole Miss game

Derrick Odom (LB, Jackson, MS) -'s #25 nationally rated linebacker took an unofficial visit to the University of Mississippi over the weekend. We called to see how his visit went.

The following information was revealed during our interview with Derrick Odom:

Talk about your season. "It is over with. We got knocked out by New Albany in the 1st round of the playoffs."

What were your stats? "I do not know for sure, but I had somewhere around 160 tackles, 8 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 4 TD's. I do not know how many fumble recoveries I had, but I think it was six, and I had twelve forced fumbles."

Grade your play for the season. "Probably about a B+. I could have done better but our team was young and our defensive line was young. I had to get past the linemen. I had more blocks to get around this year, but I did a pretty good job with it."

Did you attend any college games this weekend? "I went to the Ole Miss/LSU game. I went to the Florida/Alabama game a couple of months ago, and those are the only two games I have been to this year."

Did anyone accompany you? "My Uncle and my father came with me."

What were their thoughts on Ole Miss? "They wanted to check out how much of a chance I have to play. That was their main concern. I also want to major in Physical Therapy. They have a great premed program at Ole Miss, so they really liked that. They were very pleased with the prospects of me getting a chance to play next year and also getting a great education. They did not like how bad they got beat (laugh) though, but they understand how everything is going. Them getting beat like that did not have a major effect on everything. They know LSU is also one of my schools, so they got a chance to see both schools."

What were your thoughts on Ole Miss. "I pretty much liked everything. I am waiting on my official visit with them in two weeks. I will get a chance to see everything at one time. That is what I am really waiting on, my official visit. I want to check out some things that are outside of football."

Did you get a chance to talk to the Ole Miss coaches? "Yea for a second. I actually did get a chance to talk to Coaches Hughes, Slocum, and Orgeron. They just described the future of the program and how I would fit in."

Did you tour their facilities? "Yea, I have already seen their facilities. I went to the Ole Miss Nike and SR camps. I am pretty familiar with Ole Miss. This was my fourth time to go there in the past year."

Did you get a chance to talk to any of the other prospects at the game? "Yea I did. I hung out with Justin Woodall, Chris Strong (Jr at South Panola), and Jeremy Griffin (Jr at South Panola).

Now that you have visited Ole Miss and Alabama for football games; compare the two. "I think one thing that is different about Ole Miss and Alabama is their fans are a little louder at Alabama. Maybe it is because Ole Miss is having a bad season and Alabama is not. I do not know. It could be because there are more fans at the Alabama games. I do not know. It is just a big difference. And at Alabama, all kind of people and students knew who I was. They told me how much they look forward to me coming there."

Does this hurt Ole Miss? "No sir, it does not. I am not going to a school because of how loud it is in their stadium. That would be silly, but when you are on the field, it does help you out to have that support. It is like a drive.

Do you have a leader yet? "Nobody is over anybody. Everybody is even. I will know after I take my visits."

When do you go on your official visits? "I go to Ole Miss (12/3), Alabama (12/9), Tennessee (1/14), LSU (1/21), and USM (1/27)."

Derrick carries a 2.7 GPA / 17 ACT.
