Zhamal Thomas impressed with Rebels
The following information was revealed during our interview with Zhamal Thomas:
Did you make it in for your official visit? "Yes, sir. I just left Oxford."
How did you like Ole Miss? "Ole Miss was nice. I had a good visit."
Did anyone accompany you? "My Mom, Daphne, and my Father, Jimmy, were on the trip to Ole Miss with me."
How did your parents like Ole Miss? "They liked Ole Miss. They liked the academics and the way the coaches stressed that."
Who was your host? "Michael Bozeman was my host. He's a nice guy. He showed me around campus and talked about the school and what a special place it is. I also met a few offensive linemen, like Michael Oher. He was straight and told me Ole Miss needs me. He said we could get something going together."
What did you learn about Ole Miss during your trip? "I learned Oxford has a nice small town atmosphere, which is fine with me. I met the coaching staff and saw how they interact with their current players. I checked out the academics and was glad to see how they stress school - that's important to me."
What stood out the most about Ole Miss during your trip? "The coaching staff. I like them. I like the fact that (OL) Coach (George) DeLeone has so much experience. He showed me some things about playing OL in Ole Miss' system that I liked. I like what they do, scheme-wise, on the OL."
How did your meeting with Coach Orgeron go? " It went well. We had a good talk. We discussed school and football. He's straight."
What did you two discuss? "Mostly academics and my future. He didn't try to force anything on me. He told me to take my time on my decision and make sure it was best for me."
Where does Ole Miss now stand in your pecking order? "Right now, my decision is between LSU and Ole Miss. They have both offered me scholarships. I have visits set up for Florida, Arkansas and Clemson, but I'm not sure right now if I will take those or not. I probably will not make a decision for a while. Early playing time is important to me, but it's not everything. I can see where I have a shot to play pretty quickly at Ole Miss, so that is a consideration."
Where do you go next? "I go to LSU next weekend. Like I said, I am set for Florida, Arkansas and Clemson in January, but I haven't decided if I will take those visits or not."
