Rebs no longer in the Massey sweepstakes

Jonathan Massey (TE, Gautier, MS) -'s #38 nationally rated tight end was informed by Ole Miss last week that the Rebels will no longer need his services.

"Ole Miss said they no longer will be recruiting me. They called my coach last week, and my coach told me they got (Jason) Hawkins from California. He was in for his official visit the same weekend I was on mine. They said they got a couple more jucos, and they would no longer be taking another tight end. Their scholarships have been filled for my position," commented the disappointed Jonathan Massey.

Are there any hard feelings from Jonathan?

"It caught me off guard. It was a surprise to me. But I guess they went with the decision that was best for their team. I am disappointed, but at the same time, I know this is a business."

Will this delay Jonathan's announcement?

"No, but my decision will be on January 11th now. ESPN wants to air my decision live on their network before some ACC basketball game."

Will Massey have to rethink his school of choice?

"Just like when you are recruiting somebody, if one of your guys does not pan out, you look at your secondary choice. It is the same thing with my decision. I will not lie, it was going to be Ole Miss, but I already have somebody else in mind."

And who is that school?

"I can not spoil it. I will just say that it will be between USM and Vandy."

Jonathan did receive some good news this morning.

"I went to the doctor and he cleared me to start practicing again. I hope to get to play in the MS/AL All-Star game, if they choose me."

Jonathan carries a 3.5 GPA and a 23 on the ACT.
