The "Duke" arrives in Oxford today
The following information was revealed during our interview with Duke Calhoun:
Are you in basketball season? "Yes sir, we are 15-1, doing pretty good."
What are you averaging for the season? "Around 18 points and 10 rebounds. I had 5 dunks in our last game."
You like to dunk it, don't you? "Yea, man, it is a sweet feeling when you dunk it over someone."
Have you had any inhome visits this week? "I had Ole Miss come by today (interview was conducted on Thursday night). I had Tennessee and coach Danny Nutt (Arkansas) come by last night. I had a Memphis coach come by on Tuesday. That is all."
Who was talking the best? "Tennessee sounded the best. They brought in their WR coach and their offensive coordinator. I forget his name."
What were they saying that sounded so good? "They said I need to come on my visit, and I could start next year, yes sir."
Does Memphis still lead for your services? "Yes sir, because it is my only visit so far."
Who is in second place? "I would put Ole Miss and Tennessee in a tie."
What stands out about Ole Miss? "Just how they recruit me, and they also have the #16 class in the country. They recruit real good."
What do you like about Tennessee? "They send players to the NFL. I like their receivers, program, and stadium too."
Which coaching staff stands out for you right now? "All of them seem pretty cool, but Memphis stands out so far."
What will be the deciding factors when it comes decision time? "Where ever I feel comfortable with their environment, staff, and who can help me get to the next level."
Are you still visiting Ole Miss (1/13), Tennessee (1/20), and Arkansas (1/27)? "No, I actually switched my Ole Miss visit to this weekend. I added Tennessee to the 13th, and I am going to Tennessee State on the 20th, and Arkansas on the 27th."
Why did you reschedule your Ole Miss visit? "Because I did not have a visit lined up with Tennessee, and I wanted to take a visit with them."
I thought you were visiting Tennessee on the 20th, originally? "No, I was going to Tennessee State on the 20th. And me and coach Kenny Ingram (Tennessee State) have a real tight bond. I can not change that visit. He use to coach at Melrose, so we go way back."
Duke carries a 4.0 GPA / 24 ACT.
Ole Miss is hosting WR Duke Calhoun, DE Kentrell Lockett, and DT Hayward Howard this weekend.
