Eason selects Rebs!

Cordera Eason (RB, Meridian, MS) - Scout.com's 14th-rated running back in the nation, chose Ole Miss over Alabama and Auburn today in an announcement on local Meridian television. The announcement came about an hour after QB Brent Schaeffer, a 5-star recruit, also picked the Rebs.

Running Back Cordera Eason did as good a job dodging the media about his recruitment as he did getting away from defenders last season while gaining 1,934 yards for Meridian High School.

But today, on a live television broadcast on a Meridian television station, Eason cast his lot with Ole Miss after months of speculation about the college of his choice.

Eason had been able to keep a relatively low profile during recruiting even though he was one of the most sought-after players in the state and the South.

The 6-0 235-pounder was the 2005 Gatorade Player of the Year for Mississippi and was named First-Team All-State by every poll in leading Meridian to the title game of the AAAAA playoffs.

Eason was recruited and offered scholarships by more than 30 schools, including LSU, Miami, Nebraska, Texas, Florida State and Florida, but he opted to stay in state and join Meridian teammate Derrick Davis, who committed to Ole Miss last week after sitting out his senior season due to rehabbing a knee injury.

Eason took his official visit to Ole Miss last weekend, when the Rebels also had nine previously committed recruits and QB Brent Schaeffer in Oxford.

Second-hand reports from the weekend all mentioned Eason and Schaeffer spending a lot of time together.

Eason was scheduled to visit Alabama and Auburn the next two weekends, but decided to go ahead and announce for Ole Miss.

As is the case with Brent, we will not hound Cordera for an interview until all of this soaks in and he gets a chance to catch his breath.

The additions of Schaeffer and Eason will undoubtedly boost Ole Miss' already lofty recruiting ranking of number 11 in the country by Scout.com to even greater heights. Is a Top 10 finish by Ed Orgeron and staff possible? After today's announcements, it seems highly possible.
