In-depth look at OM commit Stevan Ridley
The following information was revealed during our interview with Stevan Ridley:
What is your current size? "I am 6' 1", 220."
What do you run the forty in? "A 4.6."
Which position are you being recruited to play on the next level? "I am not sure. Ole Miss thinks they are looking at me for linebacker. I play running back and linebacker for Trinity Episcopal. Coach Orgeron told me that it is open, either way. I can run the ball or play linebacker. I am not really sure where I am going to play."
What do you do well on the field? "I have good vision. I am a vision runner. I run with a lot of power too. I guess you can say I am a back that has good vision and runs with power. I guess I do not really have the breakaway speed. I run a 4.6, so, but I am still fast enough (laugh). I am just a playmaker really. I played QB,. RB, and LB last year. I even punted, kicked field goals, and returned punts and kickoffs for us. They even played me at some defensive end and safety on certain downs. I just do it all for us. They put me everywhere. My 9th and 10th grade years I was moved from JV to the varsity team and I played nose guard. We made it to the State Championship game my freshman year. Then I messed up my ankle (fractured) in 10th grade. I was out the last three games. I did not get to play in the state championship. My junior season, we made it to the South State Championship game but lost."
What were your stats for the season? "I had 1, 818 rushing yards on 370 carries and 22 TD's. I passed for 841 yards. I ended up with 3, 307 all-purpose yards. On defense, I had 85 tackles, 49 assists, 36 solos and 3 interceptions."
Did you garner any awards? "I was the Metro Player of the Year by the Jackson, and I was the only junior on the 1st Team. I also made All-District at running back."
Which colleges have been sending you letters? "The three main ones are Auburn, MSU has been really keeping in touch with me and Ole Miss."
Do you have a leader yet? "I committed to Ole Miss."
Why Ole Miss? "I went to their summer camp when I was in 9th grade, and I just fell in love with their campus. Then after my season this year, MSU and Ole Miss were kind of looking at me. Ole Miss offered me. I talked to my mom about it, and we just thought I should go ahead and commit. They were number one school. Why not go ahead and commit? That is what we said."
Did you inform the other colleges of your decision? "Well (laugh), the day after I committed to Ole Miss, Coaches Beamer and Croom (MSU) came to my school. They talked to my coach and watched me workout, but they could not talk to me directly because I am just a junior. They asked my coach why I committed, and he told them that I have always liked Ole Miss a lot. They just told my coach that they were going to keep recruiting me anyway. And they have. They write me a lot of letters, a whole lot of letters."
Have you already started receiving invitations to attend some Jr Days? "Yes, I got one for Ole Miss. It is on February 25th. I also got one for MSU on March 25th, and I forgot the date for the Auburn junior day."
I hear some of your family members have a football background too. "Yes, my dad played at JSU and later transferred to Misssissippi College. He ws the first black athlete to play at Mississippi College. My brother is a wide receiver at Delta State right now."
