Rebels offer local product

Johnathan Frink (LB, Oxford, MS) - It is not often that the City of Oxford has multiple SEC caliber players, but this year is your exception.

The Chargers already have one player committed to an SEC school, Jamison Hughes (Ole Miss), and do not be surprised if Lafayette County product Markeno Lee (DL) and Oxford product Johnathan Frink end up signing with a BCS conference college.

What makes Frink's motor go?

"I believe I am good at reading linemen and my coverage skills are pretty good," stated the 6' 1", 215 pounder Johnathan Frink.

Speed has always been Frink's forte, as he ran a 4.52 forty last week, but he still wants to get even faster.

"I want to get quicker where I can get to point A to point B faster. That is mainly what I am working on now."

Players are always looking to get stronger, but strength is another plus in Frink's game.

"I am benching right at 300, and I squatted 450 the other day."

Oxford High made it to the North Half Championship game last season and recorded its schools first undefeated regular season. Johnathan was a big part of their success.

"I had 147 tackles, and I was named All-Area by the Tupelo Journal and the Oxford Eagle. I also made 1st Team All-State (Class 4A)."

Colleges have begun to take notice and several are already recruiting the young man.

"I get letters every day from all kind of schools, but the main ones who are writing me are Memphis, MSU, Indiana, Ole Miss, and Auburn."

Have any of them made any early scholarship offers?

"Ole Miss offered me."

Johnathan's teammate, Jamison Hughes, committed to the Rebels a couple of weeks back; could Frink be next?

"I feel like they are the school for me, but I am still going to wait and weigh my other options. I want to make sure I am making the right decision before I go ahead and commit. I am going to their Jr Day this weekend. It will be interesting to see if they want me to go ahead and commit. I know a lot of the top players in Mississippi have already committed to them, but they have not really just asked me to commit yet."

What does Frink like about the Rebels so far?

"I believe I can come in and help them at linebacker. They lost one last year and Patrick Willis is graduating this year. I would have a good opportunity to get in there and get some playing time if I went there. And besides, I just like their defense and how they play. I look forward to watching their defense again this year."

Are there anymore colleges out there that Johnathan is keeping a close eye on?

"I really like Georgia, Texas, and LSU too."

What stands out about each school?

Georgia - "I also like how they play defense. They play with a lot of intensity. They need some help at linebacker too."

Texas - "I also like their defense. I watched them in the national championship game and they seem like a big family."

- "I like how they swarm to the ball. I have not had a chance to talk to their coaches yet, but I look forward to hearing from them when they can start calling us."

What will be the main factors when it comes decision time for Frink?

"If I can play middle linebacker or not. Will I have to gain any weight or speed or what ever. The coaches will also play a factor too."

Johnathan carries a 2.9 GPA / 24 ACT.

Johnathan Frink will attend the All-American Combine in Oxford on April 30.
