Willard Ross' recruiting profile

Willard Ross (DB, Hollandale Simmons, MS) - The Blue Devils were ever so close to getting that elusive state championship last season that they could almost smell it.

"Man, we really thought we were going to win that thing, but Lumberton was just too much for us. You have to give them all the credit in the world. They played a great game. We gave it our all. We fell one game short, but at least we got there," said the disappointed but proud Willard Ross.

Willard was the "director" for Simmons' offense, as he handled the QB duties, and he also called the defensive plays for the Devil's secondary while manning the cornerback slot.

"I had 789 passing yards and 382 rushing yards. I think I had 29 total TD's. On defense, I had 49 tackles, 8 interceptions, 16 pass deflections, 2 forced fumbles, and 3 recovered fumbles."

Ross was named 1st Team All-Delta at CB, 1st Team All-District at CB, and 2nd Team All-State at QB."

What does Willard do best on the field?

"I think my run support, and I cover pretty well at cornerback."

What areas does Ross need to work on?

"My speed and agility and also my footwork. My hands could also improve."

Has Willard begun to receive any letters?

"Ole Miss, Yale, Princeton, Harvard, and Mississippi State pretty much write me every week."

And how did Yale, Princeton, and Harvard find out about Willard?

"I make pretty good grades (laugh). I pretty much make all "A's".

Does Willard plan to check out any of his favorite colleges this Spring for Jr Day?

"I am going to Ole Miss this Saturday with Antonio White, and then I am going to MSU on March 25th to see what they got."

What does Willard like about both programs?

Ole Miss - "I like the academics at Ole Miss. They are very strong, academically, at Ole Miss. I also like to watch their defense play. They swarm to the ball."

MSU - "They have a real aggressive defense and a good offense too. They are recruiting real good players at MSU, and I like their campus too."

When it comes decision time; what will be some of the factors?

"The first thing I will look at are their academics. Will they have my major, Business Management? I also want to be a part of a good football program."

Willard will be showcasing his skills at the Scout.com Combine on April 30th in Oxford, MS.
