Tennessee's top linebacker prospect?

Chris Donald (LB, Huntingdon, TN) - Many are comparing the Huntingdon product to another prospect who grew up just down the road."Yea, a lot of people say I am a little Patrick Willis. We grew up together. He lives just a mile or so down the road in Bruceton. It is just an honor for people to say I am a little Patrick Willis. He is the best linebacker in college and someone I look up to. That feels good," added the very soft but well spoken Chris Donald.

Like Patrick coming out of high school, Chris starts at both tailback and linebacker for his high school.

"I had over 2, 000 yards at running back and 24 TD's last season on offense. At linebacker, I had 120 tackles, 33 for losses, 14 sacks, 5 fumble recoveries, and 1 interception."

And just where do the colleges project Donald on the next level?

"Oh, they all like me at linebacker. That is where I am going to play."

Chis was named 1st Team All-State, All-West Tennessee, All-Conference, and as we pointed out above, was one of three Finalist for Mr. Football. What did Donald think about his junior campaign?

"We had a pretty good season. We moved to Region 7(2A) where all of the hard teams play. We finished 2nd in our Region, so that was not too bad. We also made the State Semifinals. We did all we could do. I was very happy with my junior campaign.

Donald does so many things well on the field, but what stands out for Chris?

"I just read plays well, and I have good closing speed."

As well as Donald played last season there are always room for improvements.

"I want to improve everything that has to do with the game of football. I am trying to get myself ready for the college level and help my team win as many games as we possibly can."

College recruiters from all over the country have already started to take notice .

"I hear from Vandy, Kentucky, Tennessee, MSU, Ole Miss, Louisville, FSU, Alabama, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Memphis, Clemson, Miami, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Ohio State, Stanford, and Texas A&M. They have been writing and text messaging me a bunch."

Any early offers?

"Tennessee, MSU, Ole Miss, and I think Clemson is going to offer me, but they have not said anything yet."

Which colleges stand out for Chris right now?

"Clemson, Tennessee, Ole Miss, FSU, and Miami."

Why the interest in Clemson?

"Their new defensive scheme allows their OLB to play up and down. I play some defensive end on rushing downs right now, and I just am excited about their scheme. I think it could really utilize my skills well."

What got you interested in Tennessee?

"I have always liked Tennessee since I was a kid. I like the atmosphere and the coaches are great. I went to their camp last summer and stayed for 2 or 3 days. I enjoyed myself a lot."

What are Ole Miss' positives?

"I went to a game last year and had a blast. Plus, my boy Patrick Willis goes there. We grew up together. I see a lot of myself in him, and he loves it there. I like their coaches a lot. Their campus is real nice too. I am going there on Saturday for Jr Day. I am going to really check it out."

Will you attend anymore Junior Days?

"I am going to go to MSU. I was suppose to go to Clemson but my grandfather got sick. I am going to go to their Spring game instead."

What stands out about MSU?

"One of their assistant coaches played here at Huntingdon, so we have that connection. I went to their 7 on 7 camp last summer and really enjoyed myself."

Talk about the Florida programs that you are interested in.

"Miami has a good coach, and I just like how they play. The same thing can be said about FSU."

What will be the main factors for Chris when it comes decision time?

"Who can give me the best education and which scheme do I fit in the best."
