Rebels impress Luther Davis at Jr Day

Luther Davis (DE, West Monroe, LA) - The recruitment of Luther Davis has really begun to pick up steam. LSU, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Auburn, USM, and Mississippi State have already offered the 6' 4", 260 pound defensive end and many more are expected to offer in the coming months.

And why not?

All Luther did was collect 74 tackles (14 for losses), 8 sacks, 11 QB hurries, 4 fumble recoveries, 4 forced fumbles and 2 blocked field goals for the 5A Champions, West Monroe Rebels.

Davis was named All-State, All-District, and All-N' East LA for his play on the field.

But now the focus has really shifted towards his recruitment. It began last Saturday when he attended Ole Miss' Jr Day.

"I enjoyed myself up there. Words can not describe it," added the emphatic Luther Davis.

Luther took in the Ole Miss football camp last summer with several of his teammates which included book end buddy, Will Blackwell , and C.C. Carpenter. Has anything changed since the last visit?

"The facilities are better, way better. Their new indoor complex just blew me away. I have toured a lot of indoor complexes, but I have never seen anything like theirs. They have everything in thier complex. Indoor pools, an arcade for the players, cafeteria, study halls, indoor weight room, training room, locker room, and each one of their coaches have their own meeting room with a big screen TV. I watched some film with Coaches Orgeron and Neilson in the defensive line room. The place is amazing. It was great up there. It could not have been any better. They probably had around 80 or so players up there, but they still treated me like I was already a part of their family. I will leave it like this, I like Ole Miss a whole/whole lot."

Academics are also an important factor for all student athletes and their parents. What did he learn about Ole Miss' academics during Jr Day?

"Basically, that was a big plus. They are all about getting your education up there. My parents are all about education, so they were real impressed about their support group. Everything they talked about was becoming a better student athlete."

Did Davis learn any new techniques to help him for his senior campaign?

"We watched some film and learned some new ways to get to the QB a little faster. They just showed me a bunch of new techniques to get off the ball a little faster."

The Rebels have already received 12 commitments for the '07 class; did they ask Luther to come be a part of it?

"No, they did not pressure me into a commitment or anything, but they did let me know that I have a spot no matter what. Coach Orgeron told me even if I committed to another school, to still come see or call him with any problems that I am having with life. That really hit home. I really came away impressed with Coach Neilson's style too. He just wants his players to go and get the QB. That is what I am all about. They talked about me playing the Leo position. It is like an extra linebacker who lines up at defensive end a lot. Their scheme is pretty exciting."

The Rebels undoubtedly made a favorable impression with Luther but now it is the LSU Tigers turn.

"I am going to LSU for their Jr Day this Saturday with Will (Blackwell)."
