Cassius Vaughan attends Ole Miss' scrimmage

Cassius Vaughan (DB, Memphis, TN) - 2006 Ole Miss signeee, Cassius Vaughan, had a chance to catch the first Ole Miss scrimmage last Saturday.

"I liked it. It was really intense. Their defense played good. They got me fired up to play defense this year. Their offense is coming together. Ben Jarvis and all of the wide receivers that are coming in, it is just going to get better," added the very personable Cassius Vaughan.

Was there anything new he learned about how Ole Miss practices at the scrimmage?

"The techniques for my position and understanding my coaches. But it was more on my techniques and my responsibilities of playing cornerback."

Vaughan stated throughout his recruitment process that there was a chance he could go both ways. Does he still feel the same way?

"I feel I am going in as a cornerback. I am more excited about playing defense than offense. I know we have a lot of players coming in on offense that are going to get it done. I am more needed at corner because I am in the only corner they signed."

The Rebels only signed one cornerback in the '05 class in Tyson Andrus, but he has since been moved to wide receiver. This made it very important for Ole Miss to not miss with their corner selection from the '06 class. If you listen to the Memphis East head coach, Vaughan was a no brainer.

"Cassius is one of the more talented athletes to come out of here. I have been coaching this school for 14 years. We have 24 players currently playing D1 ball right now, and there is nobody more talented than Cassius. He can do it all," added East Head Coach, Wayne Randall.

Now that Cassius has had a chance to get a close up view of his competition at corner; how does he stack up?

"I feel like I fit in pretty good. All of their corners are experienced and know what to do. It is going to be very competitive in August. They have a lot of experience, so I have my work cut out for me, but at the same time I know I have the ability to get things done"

Did Vaughan get a chance to speak with Coach Orgeron at the scrimmage?

"Yes sir. He introduced me to all of the players. He was strictly business at practice though. He did not have much time to chit chat around."

Players have begun to start sending in their information to the NCAA clearinghouse to see where they stand. What is Cassius' current academic standing?

"I am qualified. I know that. I have everything I need but my certificate (high school diploma)."

When can the Rebels expect the All-State selection to arrive on campus?

"I should be there in June. I am enrolling in June."
