Jamar Shelton's recruiting profile

Jamar Shelton (S, West Point, MS) - There may have not been a more important player on the 4A Champs' defense last year than their hard hitting safety.

"I like to make the big hit and the big play," stated the confident Jamar Shelton.

One has to look no further than his forced fumbles (9) to know that Mr. Shelton means business when he meets you between the lines. But make no mistake about it, Shelton also has a knack of knowing the ball is going as evident by his 6 interceptions last season.

Is there anything else Jamar brings to the table?

"Yea, I can catch the ball pretty good too. I had 24 receptions for 490 yards and 7 TD's."

Last season was a magical run for the Green Wave as they collected their first state championship since 1988.

"We started out with our goals, and we ended up meeting them. We won state."

The All-District, Region, and State performer has attracted some D1 interest.

"I am getting a lot of letters from USM, Ole Miss, Tennessee, MSU, Penn, and Illinois."

But there is one school who is recruiting him the hardest?

"MSU really sends me a lot of stuff. They are on me pretty hard."

Which colleges are at the top of Jamar's list?

"I like USM, MSU, and Ole Miss."

What stands out about MSU?

"I like their academics and location."

And USM?

"It is close to home and I like their football program."

What about the Rebels?

"Their location and their prestige. They have a lot of history."

Has Jamar had a chance to take in any Jr Days?

"I went to USM's last Saturday. We watched them practice and toured their facilities. They have a great staff. I am suppose to go to Tennessee's next month."

When it comes decision time; what will be the factors?

"How close it is to home and their academics and football program."

Shelton reports a 2.63 GPA / 19 ACT.
