Alabama's top DT visits Ole Miss

Kerry Murphy (DL, Hoover, AL) - Some consider Kerry as the top defensive tackle prospect in the state of Alabama.

As a junior, the 6' 5", 315 youngster collected 77 tackles, 13 for losses and 8 sacks.

What makes Kerry such a good ball player?

"Just the way we practice and work hard. I say individually, my quickness, hands, and intensity level makes me the player I am," added Kerry Murphy.

Will Murphy need to work on anything for the next level?

"Oh yea (laugh). I need to work on my conditioning, bench press (305), squat (415), and just hit the weight room as hard as I can."

Kerry started his unofficial visit tour earlier this Spring with visits to Auburn's and Alabama's Jr Day.

This past Friday, he got a chance to see Ole Miss.

"It was nice. I liked it. I got a chance to talk with Coaches Orgeron and Neilson (d-line coach). They were will intense, very cool."

Kerry and two of his Hoover teammates (Joshua Chapman and Michael DeJohn) actually visited Ole Miss the day before their Spring game and had to go back home that night so they could take the ACT test the next morning.

What new did Kerry learn about Ole Miss during his trip?

"They are a real together team. We had to miss the Spring game, but we spent all day Friday there. They were getting all hyped about it (Spring game), and it was just a scrimmage. I can not imagine what it is like there on a real game. Their staff is pretty crazy. It is a cool atmosphere."

Now that Kerry has had a chance to soak in the trip; what stood out?

"Their facilities were incredible. I am just now seeing all of the college stuff. I guess most of them are like that. I do not know, but I know Ole Miss' were straight, real straight. Their training room, practice fields, indoor complex, just everything. I think they got a lot of good guys who play together. That really stood out too."

Which colleges have offered the '05 All-State selection?

"I have five offers right now. They are Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Louisville, and Clemson."

Is Alabama on top for Kerry's services?

"I say they would be because I am from Alabama, but I still do not know which college I am going to. I have to visit some more schools."

Will Kerry take anymore Spring visits?

"I am going to Kentucky's Spring game on Sunday."

Anybody else out there that Murphy would like to check out?

"I want to go see what Louisville is all about."

When it comes decision time; what will be the number one factor?

"Their academic support. I can play football anywhere, but I want to get my degree and get a good one."

Kerry will participate at the scout combine at Alabama on April 29th.
