Stanley Porter is hungry to get healthy

Stanley Porter (DL, Rosedale, MS) - It was a terrible feeling last season when Stanley had to watch the North Half Championship game from the sidelines.

"Man, I just wanted to be out there with the guys. I could hardly stand to be there. I just felt helpless," added Stanley Porter. West Boliver eventually lost to Hollandale Simmons in that game.

Porter fractured his ankle in the fourth game of the season and missed the remainder of the year. As if the injury were not bad enough, Stanley was right on the verge of another banner season as he had already collected 23 tackles, 6 sacks, 4 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries in just three and half games of action.

Stanley's sophomore season saw him blow up on the scene as he recorded 89 tackles and 14 sacks. He was named the 2004 Region 3(2A) Player of the Year as only a 10th grader.

How has the fractured ankle healed?

"That one is healed. I am over the fractured ankle."

Has Porter experienced another injury?

"In basketball this Spring, I tore a ligament in my foot that dislocated my toe. I am just about all the way healed from that one too. It is frustrating, but all I can do is pray to the man upstairs to watch after me."

Spring practice started back on Monday. Was Stanley able to practice?

"Yea, but I really did not do a whole lot of cutting on it. I am still trying to be careful."

Porter received a scholarship offer from Ole Miss back in February and accepted it with a verbal commitment. Is he still solid?

"Yes sir. I like their practice fields and stadium. They have a great indoor facility, and I like how they go through their practices so quickly. I just feel like Ole Miss is the school for me."

Does Stanley continue to hear from other colleges?

"I get a lot of letters from Auburn, Tennessee, USM, Illinois, and MSU. Of course, Ole Miss sends me stuff too. They send me the most. I get hand written letters from different coaches at Ole Miss almost every day."

Stanley Porter will participate at the scout combine in Oxford on April 30th.
