Kennedy signs Andy Ogide

Over the past weekend, Alexandria, LA, G Rodney Jones and Cincy PG Devan Downey visited Ole Miss. That's good news. The really good news is that Dallas, GA, F Andy Ogide, who visited two weekends ago, signed with the Rebels. To go along with PF Kenny Williams, a JUCO who was signed last week, the new regime of Coach Andy Kennedy is in full gear. Read about it inside.

Andy Ogide, a 6-8, 225-pound Forward from Paulding High School in Dallas, GA, didn't give the Rebel hoops program the thumbs up immediately after his official visit two weeks ago.

He was still pondering offers from Florida State, Tulane, Vandy and late arrival in his recruitment Georgia. Ogide committed to Virginia in the early signing period, but never signed.

He has now signed with the Rebels.

Ogide brings brains, athleticism and size to the Rebel lineup.

Ogide scored 25.3 points a game as a senior at Paulding. He also snatched 11.3 rebounds and had three blocks per game.

What is also intriguing about him is his performance in the class room. Ogide has a 3.8 grade point average and a 1080 on his SATs.

"Andy is a diamond in the rough player and an outstanding student," said Paulding Coach Joel Boone. "He can run, jump, shoot and he's going to make good grades. His upside is excellent."

Ogide is the Rebs' second signee since new Coach Andy Kennedy has taken over. Last week the Rebs signed 6-8 JUCO Forward Kenny Williams from St. Petersburg CC.

To go along with current Rebels Dewayne Curtis and Jermey Parnell, the Rebs have definitely helped themselves inside.

Ole Miss had two official visits over the weekend as well.

Cincy PG Devan Downey, who will transfer from the Bearcats program and played for Kennedy last year, visited but made no commitment about his future. He is expected to make a choice at the end of Cincinatti's school term at the end of May.

Guard Rodney Jones, a 6-4 All-Stater from Alexandria, LA, also visited. Word from Alexandria is that the Rebs are in good shape with Jones and a favorable decision may be forthcoming, but he did not commit over the weekend.
