Rebel football team adds local product

Eric Nicks (FB, Oxford, MS) - Eric helped Lafayette County to the 2005 Class 4A North Half Championship game as a senior. He was the key cog for both their offense and defense as he accounted for over 1,200 yards of offense and over 100 tackles at linebacker.

Nicks took a detour to N' West CC last fall and it has been a good move for the former 1st Team All-State and District Player of the Year selection. Eric is now an important component for the Ranger's offense and defense, as he will play FB and LB for N' West CC this fall.

Eric decided to go ahead and get his recruitment over with today, as he called Coach Freeze to let him know the good news.

"Yea, I committed to Ole Miss. It is my hometown and I know so many guys on their team. I am close with a lot of them. It just seems like the best place for me. I also like Coach Freeze a lot. We just kind of hit it off as soon as we met. We have a good relationship."

Were there anymore schools actively recruiting Eric?

"Alabama and New Mexico have been calling me this month. I am getting a lot of letters from Oklahoma State and Louisville too."

But make no mistake; the Rebels plan on using Eric at the fullback position when he steps foot on campus.

"That is what they want me to do, clear some holes. I am real physical. I love to block. That is why they are so high on me."

Nicks certainly has the build, 6' 1", 245, to take on the opposing linebackers and safeties on the next level.

What else will Eric bring to the table for Ole Miss?

"I have a lot of Oxford pride. I think I am going to bring a little more energy to the program."

When can Ole Miss expect to get Nicks on campus?

"I should be out in December."

Nicks marks Ole Miss' 13th public commitment.
