Ole Miss head baseball coach Mike Bianco has signed a one-year extension to ihs contract that takes him thorugh the 2010 season. The Rebels have experienced unprecedented success through the six years Bianco has been at the helm of the baseball program.

Ole Miss Athletics Director Pete Boone announced Wednesday a one-year contract extension for head baseball coach Mike Bianco, which runs through the 2010 season. Four-year contracts are the longest granted in Mississippi by the Board of Trustees, State Institutions of Higher Learning.

"We are excited to be able to announce this contract extension and feel fortunate that Mike, Camie and their children love Oxford, Ole Miss and the Rebel fans," Boone said. "We expect them to be here for years to come.

"Based on his outstanding conference record over the last four years, Mike has proven to be one of the best coaches in the SEC, if not the best," Boone said. "We believe he will be one of the highest paid baseball coaches in the SEC."

Under the direction of Bianco, Ole Miss baseball has produced the most SEC regular- season wins (70) over the last four years, is the only team in the conference to produce a winning record in league play all four seasons and is one of only 10 teams in the nation to post at least 92 victories over the last two years.

The Rebels are also the only SEC team to host NCAA Regionals the last three years and the only conference team to host NCAA Super Regionals the last two seasons.

"I believe this contract extension shows my commitment to Ole Miss, the team and the fans," Bianco said. "I've said several times there has been overwhelming support by the administration, most importantly Pete Boone and Chancellor (Robert) Khayat, towards our baseball program.

"Although we've had a lot of success here, our work is not done," he added. "Our goal is to bring a national championship to Ole Miss as we compete on a national level year after year."

The success under Bianco at Ole Miss has also been reflected in the stands. Ole Miss led all 2006 Regionals and Super Regionals in attendance, while the 2005 NCAA Super Regional also led all regionals. The 2005 NCAA Regional ranked second in the country.

The 2006 season also brought with it a new season attendance record at Ole Miss as 184,331 fans made their way to Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field to see their Rebels play.

During Bianco's six seasons as head baseball coach at Ole Miss, the Rebels have produced a 242-132-1 record. His career record stands at 342-203-l, including three years at McNeese State. His winning percentage at Ole Miss is .647 and .627 overall.
