Scott Bittle is ready to make an impact at OM

Scott Bittle (RHP, N' East College, TX) - The Rebels are returning most all of their arms for next year's squad, but if there was one weakness on Ole Miss' team this past year, it was their bull pen. But help could be on the way in the 6' 1", 180 pounder who hails from Texarkana.

"I really do not know if I am going to come out of the pen or start, but I will play where ever they need me. I think I would make a great closer though. I just have that mentality," added Scott Bittle.

That could be good news for Rebel fans as their closer, Garrett White, recently signed a MLB contract with the LA Dodgers.

"I heard about that (White leaving). I have a closer mentality. I like to go straight after you. I come right at you. I do not like to walk people. I would rather do anything that walk somebody. That is the ultimate no/no."

Does Scott have the power to be a closer?

"I clock in the 92 (MPH) range pretty consistently. I average in the 89-91 range."

What is Bittle's best pitch?

"Definitely my cutter. That is my go to pitch."

Rarely do you see college pitchers throw four pitches, but that is exactly what the Rebels are getting in Scott.

"I throw a cutter, slider, change up and a fastball."

What were Scott's stats from this past Spring?

"I did not play this season. I took a medical redshirt. I had a rotator cuff tendentious."

How long will it take for Scott's rotator to heal?

"Probably in two weeks I will be all the way back. I am already pitching in live games for the Mineral Wells Steam in the Texas League. I pretty much feel all the way back already. I was pumping it in the zone pretty good last week. I had 9 strike outs in 5 innings in my first game back."

Bittle did have a pretty successful freshman campaign at N' East College.

"I was selected to the Texas/New Mexico All-Star game, and I was named All-Conference. I went 6-4 with a 4.22 ERA. I had 72 K's and 14 walks in 58 innings."

How did a Texan end being a Rebel?

"I felt that was the best opportunity for me to get to Omaha."

Who else was Scott considering?

"I took official visits to Texas A&M, TCU, and the College of Charleston."

When can Ole Miss expect Bittle to arrive?

"Our league ends in early August. I will be over there shortly after that."
