Key LHP signee will arrive in August
"I will be there in August," added James Wiley.
It was hard to match James' junior season at Lovett as he was named the Atlanta Journal Constitution's 2005 Player of the Year after going 11-1 with a 1.78 ERA. He had 125 K's and 28 walks in 82 innings.
How did the 6' 2", 200 pounder fare this season?
"The only thing I know for sure is that I went 7-3 and we won the State (2A) Championship. I do not have any of the other stats, honestly. I battled a strained lower back all year.".
Did he garner any awards?
"Not like last year. I was named 2nd Team All-Metro by the Atlanta Constitution and All-Atlanta."
Wiley was one of the more sought after prospects in the country coming out his junior season. James narrowed his list down to Ole Miss, Wake Forest, and Florida State before casting his lot with the Rebels
Why Ole Miss?
"I had been talking to Ole Miss from the beginning. They were my top choice from the start, but my official visit just made up my mind. I played at Ole Miss' baseball stadium in a tournament last summer, but I never got a chance to see how the every day life was. The atmosphere during my visit was awesome. Their game day was great. I heard about the Grove and it was even better than what people told me about it. The girls was awesome (laugh). I do not know. It was just an unbelievable experience. I got to really get to know all of their coaches on that visit. I just felt good around them. The players on the team were guys who I felt like I fit in with too, so that was important. The facilities were great, and I knew they were on the rise. They have one of the best programs in the country now."
James played for the top Connie Mack program in the country last two summers, the East Cobb Yankees. The Yankees won the World Series last year and have had over twenty 1st round draft choices off of their squad.
Will Wiley continue to play for the Yankees this summer?
"Yes sir, we just played in a tournament at Ole Miss last weekend. We did all right. We hope to repeat this summer, but we have a long ways to go."
James is expected to arrive on Ole Miss' campus in August.
