Rebels eye California juco star

Woodny Turenne (CB, College of Sequoias, CA) - It is no secret that Ole Miss is looking to add some height to their cornerback slots.

One of the key juco targets they are looking at attends Brent Schaeffer's old school, College of Sequoias.

Woodney turned in some impressive numbers last season as he picked off 5 passes and had a conference best 24 pass breakups in 10 games of action.

"I think my biggest thing is my speed and my willing to learn," added Woodny Turenne.

Woodney is also a track star for College of Sequoias, as he won the California juco track meet in the 100 meter dash with a 10.5 run.

"In high school (at Stranahan, FL), I placed 2nd in state in the 100 and 200 meter race in my senior year. My junior year, I placed 3rd in the 100 and 200. My sophomore year, I also placed 3rd in the 100 and 200. I have always loved to compete in track, probably as much as I do in football."

How did this former Florida prep star end up in California?

"Coach Andy Seigal coached my two cousins at Dodge City CC (KS). I just liked how they ran their program."

Which colleges are at the top of Woodney's list?

"Florida, Michigan, Ole Miss, and UCLA are all up there."

Turenne has also received additional offers from USC, FSU, and Miami, but those four schools seem to be showing him the most interest.

"They have all offered me, but them four just stay on me the most. I hear from them almost everyday. You want to go where you feel wanted, and they are doing a good job of that."

Has Woodny had a chance to take in some visits this summer?

"I went on an unofficial to Florida when I went back home. I have an official visit set up with them in September."

What did Woodny learn about the Gators during his trip?

"I got to learn what kind of defense they will run and the personality of the staff."

Turenne grew up in Ft. Lauderdale, FL; does this give the Gators the edge?

"No, but it does not hurt either."

What got Woodny interested in Ole Miss?

"Well, they were one of the few schools who offered me when I was in high school. And then my boy Brent (Schaeffer) signed with them. We talk a lot, and he thinks I would like it there. I am just going to go down on an official and see what it is all about."

What attracts Turenne to Michigan?

"They have a good history of CB's, and they are willing to go man on man in coverage."

"I do not know too much about them. I just know one of their coaches. He use to coach for South Florida when he was recruiting me out of high school. But I hear they have a real good program."

What exactly is Woodny looking for on the next level?

"I am looking for a team I can win with and play right away that fits my coverage style. I like to play man on man. Just basically where I feel at home."

When will Turenne graduate?

"Probably May, but there is a chance I will get out in December."
