Instate battle for Willard Ross

Willard Ross (DB, Hollandale Simmons, MS) - One of the top talents in the state of Mississippi has not exactly set the recruiting trail on fire, but he still has a couple of heavy suitors.

"Mississippi State and Ole Miss are recruiting me really hard," commented Willard Ross.

Which school is closest to offering?

"Ole Miss. I like talking to their coaches a lot. And MSU too. I talk to both of their coaches about the same. But I think I had a better workout at Ole Miss. At MSU, all we did was 7 on 7. We did not work out for anything."

Is it safe to assume that the Rebels and Bulldogs are Willard's top schools?

"Those are pretty much the Top 2. They have been for a while."

Willard is now focusing on the season at hand.

"Practice has been good so far. I am just getting ready now. Friday, we play our first game against West Tallahatchie. Everybody has been working real hard. We are coming together as a team."

Last season Willard had over 1,200 yards of offense and 29 TD's. The cornerback slot saw him collect 49 tackles, 8 interceptions, 16 pass deflections, 2 forced fumbles, and 3 recovered fumble.

But the icing on the cake was participating in the state championship game.

"That was a great experience for us. We came up a little short, but hopefully we can do it this year. That is everyone's goal."

And where will Ross line up this season?

"On offense, I am playing QB and RB. On defense, I will play LB, S, and CB. On special teams, I will be returning kicks."

Lastly, what does Williard want to accomplish before the season starts?

"I am trying to get on track. We have a lot of new players and a new offensive coordinator. I just want to win. I know everybody else does too. We got to get everybody on track."
