Analysis from jamboree at Ole Miss

Many talented athletes were on display at the jamboree that was held at Ole Miss' football facility. To find out which players stood out the most, read below.

Shannon vs Olive Branch tidbits

We had to leave midway through the last quarter of play and Shannon was up 6 - 0 in the game.

Everytime Olive Branch would get it going on offense, they would turn it over.

(Editors note) Olive Branch ended up winning 7 - 6.

Notes

QB Cannon Smith for Olive Branch has good footwork and a pretty good arm.

The only down side is that looks smaller than the 6' 1", 180 listing that was in the Commercial Appeal.

RB DeMatanise Hill has good size and power. He was not able to make people miss, but he could run through you if needed. He also had the ability to break tackles.

One thing we did notice is that he had good straight ahead speed.

DE K.J. Wright was clearly the best player on the field. Has DE height (6' 4") just needs to put on 20 or so pounds.

Constantly beat his blocker to the ball carrier and fought off the double team very well.

If K.J. can put on his needed weight, he can be a big time prospect.

WR Darrius Young injured his foot last week in practice and had to miss the game.

We were informed that he will be able to play in Shannon's home opener.

QB Michael Leadbetter is a southpaw and throws a very pretty pass. He is a junior this year and will make a lot of noise before he graduates.

Charleston Vs Houston tidbits

Charleston won the game 19-6, as they were simply too much for Houston.

An interesting note, Quentin Saulsberry and Bradley Sowell were on the sidelines for the game.

They both said Charlston is the hardest hitting team they have ever competed against.

Notes

RB Johnny Brown (OM commit) for Charleston had a sprained ankle and did not participate but will be ready for the season opener.

Ath Stacey Lake for Charleston is a good player and made several great catches on the field.

LB Charles Harris for Charleston is going to be a Dandy Dozen material player before it is all said and done. He is a sophomore and was all over the field.

Ath Zach Foote for Houston is very well put together and has a chance to be a legit D1 prospect. He has been on the prospect list for some time now, and we believe he is going to open some eyes this season.

West Point Vs Tupelo tidbits...

To the surprise in most in attendance, West Point manhandled Tupelo by the score of 21 - 7 in a two quarter game.

Scoring Summery

RB Darren Ewing for West Point ran for a 65 yard TD. (7-0)

WR Perrance Ward scored on a 18 yard TD for West Point. (14-0)

RB Charlie Davidson ran for a 2 yard TD for West Point (21- 0)

RB Kenny Davis (OM Commit) caught a 21 yard screen pass for a TD (21-7)

Notes

RB Darren Ewing is a rising sophomore and this kid is a BIG TIME PLAYER.

He is about 5' 11", 180 and the kid can fly, has good power, and great vision.

Will be around a 4 star back when it is his time.

DE Cornelius Devine for West Point is one of those great high school players but is a little bit of a tweener. He is a true DE but is too small (6' 1", 200).

LB Kaleb Rush is another great high school player but does not quite have the speed to play LB on the SEC level, in our opinion.

RB Kenny Davis for Tupelo is everything he was billed to be. Great size (6' 1", 225), speed, and power. He reminds me of an Anthony Dixon but with more speed.

QB Chris Garrett is a sophomore and has a good frame (around 6' 3", 190) and a pretty strong arm to be just a sophomore. He made a lot of good passes in tight coverage and has a chance to be a legit high D1 player.

WR Marqavious Gilbert had a very good camp at Ole Miss and now we see why. Has great speed and runs good routes. He is a track guy that has just come on to the scene this season.

OL Will Briscoe is getting some serious D1 looks and played a pretty good game. Needs to work on his footwork but has a good frame.

OL Jason Fowler has a great frame and attitude. He also needs to work on his footwork but has a chance to play on the next level.

Oxford Vs Saltillo tidbits

Saltillo was just overmatched as Oxford won 28-0 in a 2 quarter game.

Side Note - All games last two quarters.

Scoring Summery

*Haracia Williams scored on a 75 yard kickoff return to open the game for Oxford.

7 - 0 Oxford

* RB DeAndrew Cochran scored on a 13 yard pass from Davis Horton.

14 - 0 Oxford

* RB Derrick Williams scored on a 44 yard pass from Matt Shaw.

21-0 Oxford

* WR Lanforth Lee scored on an 8 yard pass from Davis Horton.

Final 28 - 0

Notes

* Jamison Hughes (OM Commit) was playing left and right cornerback. He had one tackle and only played in the opening series.

Quote from Coach Chris Baushman (Secondary Coach)

"Jamison is a very physical corner that runs well. He is your typical D1 corner you want. He is pretty easy to coach and has a great combo of size and speed.

* Johnathan Frink was playing middle linebacker and had one sack and two tackles in the opening series.

Quote from Coach Chris Baushman (Secondary Coach)

"Jonathan is an awesome specimen and player. He plays how he looks. He is up to about 230 now and is moving even better than he did last year. He reads the plays better than any player I have ever coached and runs well. Once he gets your hands on you, you are going down. I personally think he is the best player in the state."
