David Rue holding tight with Ole Miss

David Rue (TE, Monroe, LA) - Richwood is getting ready for their season opener and one player the Rams will be counting on is Ole Miss commit, David Rue.

"David has really gotten himself prepared for his senior year," commented Richwood's new head coach, Warren Trimble. "David is now up to 6' 6", 250 and it is nothing but muscle. He is a good football player and will really help us on the edge at defensive end, and he has good hands and is a very good blocker at tight end.”

David has also been pleased with his preseason camp.

"It went pretty good. It has been pretty hot though. I am trying to get use to the new conditioning coach. He has us going through the sand with tires on our back. We are just doing a lot of things to get ourselves acclimated to this heat. We feel like we are ready," commented David Rue

The Rams played Mansfield in a jamboree last Saturday, and they open their season against Franklin Parish on Friday.

"They got me more involved in the offense this year. I had 4 catches for 68 yards and a TD. I also had 2 sacks at DE."

Rue has seen improvement in his game.

"I am just a lot stronger, faster, and bigger now. That is why I am so anxious to run the 40 again, but our coach want let us do it because we have been busy going over the plays. We maxed out the other day. I benched 280, but I did not squat."

David, Chad Jones, and fellow Ole Miss commit Rishaw Johnson, use to play at St. Augustine together before splitting due to Hurricane Katrina.

"It was tough on all of us. We went everywhere together, but you know, everybody had to get a roof over their head. We had to all go our separate ways. But all of us are like best friends. I have been talking to Chad (Jones) lately, but he has been busy with football and baseball. Rishaw has been traveling a little bit. He was trying to get me to go to O. Perry Walker with him, but I told him I needed to stay with my mother, and he said if I did not go, he was not going to go. I wanted to get back to New Orleans, but nobody was going back."

Ole Miss and Clemson offered David early in the recruiting process, but Rue committed to Ole Miss.

"I am still committed to Ole Miss. It was just the right environment for me. I went up there for Jr Day, and then when I went back this summer, and it just made up my mind for sure that Ole Miss was the right school for me. They have a lot of Louisiana people on their staff and a lot of players from here, so they are easy to talk to. Me and Rishaw are probably going to room together there next year."

Any chance Chad Jones might join them?

"I really think he is going to play college baseball and football instead of going pro. But you know, if they offered him crazy money he would take it. He told me he was leaning towards LSU, but he said Ole Miss and Miami were still in it. I still think he will probably end up at LSU."
