Darrius Young's season progress report

Darrius Young (WR, Shannon, MS) - Darrius did not get off to the start he had hoped for his senior season but it was not due to his production.

"I hurt my foot the week before the opening game. I had to sit out our jamboree and the first game, but I am fine now. It was a hair line fracture, but it is healed now. It is still a little tender, but I have played well since the first game," added Darrius Young

And playing well is an understatement.

"I had five touchdowns against Amory last Friday (in Shannon's 33-21 win). I scored 3 TD's against Okolona and 2 TD's against Holly Springs."

Darrius had 178 yards receiving against Amory, 93 receiving yards against Okolona, and 108 against Holly Springs.

Averaging over 120 receiving yards and 3 TD's per game is not bad for a hair line fracture.

What has Young improved on this season?

"I am just able to catch the ball better. My hands are better. Me and the QB have a great chemistry. We know each other inside and out. We are best friends off of the field too. We just have that chemistry."

Young attended the TN/FL last Saturday and had an enjoyable experience.

"Me and my dad and my uncle went up there. It was everything I had heard it was going to be. That place was crazy. Coaches Luke and Fulmer spoke to us after the game. They said they were really impressed with my season and they hoped to see me back up there again."

Darrius is now holding offers from Tennessee, Alabama, Ole Miss, MSU, USM, and Memphis but it looks like the Dogs are the only ones who are keeping in phone contact.

"I just got off of the phone with Coach Grimes (from MSU). He wanted to know how my foot was coming around and wanted me to come over for a game."

Now that MSU has stepped up their interest in Young, Darrius is giving the Dogs more of a serious look.

"MSU is recruiting me harder than anybody else. I would really put them up there with Alabama, Ole Miss, and Tennessee now. Them four are it. They are all about the same."

Which college will Young visit next?

"I am probably going to Ole Miss next weekend when they play Georgia. That is really the only one I have planned right now."
