International prospect will visit Ole Miss

Kevin Cantinol (C, Clearwater, FL) - Kevin is a little known commodity for good reason.

"I am from the Caribbean's island of Martinique," added the French citizen. "I lived there until my sophomore year. Then I moved here."

The 6' 9", 215 prospect is versatile enough to play several different positions on the next level.

"I can play power forward, center, or small forward."

International players have hit the American market in a big way the past 10 years.

"We know that if you want to be the best, you go to the USA to play. There are so many great players and coaches here."

Like many foreign players, two areas stick out the most when describing their strengths.

"I can shoot it from the outside, and I block a lot of shots."

And what does Cantinol want to work on?

"I am trying to gain some weight and strength, and I want to shoot the ball a little bit better."

Kevin averaged 10 points and 9 rebounds as a junior and is looking forward to his senior campaign.

"I think I have learned a lot over here. My confidence is much greater now that I have had a year under my belt."

Although Cantinol is new to the America scene, college recruiters have taken notice.

"I have been offered by Winthrop, Toledo, UNC Greensboro, and Ole Miss. South Carolina is recruiting me real hard too."

Has Kevin set up his official visits?

"I am going to Ole Miss this weekend, Toledo (10/6), Winthrop (10/13), and UNC Greensboro (10/20)."

When did the Rebels become interested in Kevin?

"The end of last season. Coach Torrey (Ward) started calling me a bunch."

What attracted Kevin to Ole Miss?

"It is a big school and they play in a very challenging league."

What are Toledo's positives?

"They are a smaller school, so I can probably get more playing time a little easier if I went there."

And Winthrop?

"They are a winning program, and they have some good players there."

What about UNCG?

"They are a small school, but they have good players and academics."

When Kevin is taking his official visits; what will he be looking for?

"I am kind of looking for good players to plat with and great academics."
