Jamariey Atterberry talks about OM visit

Jamariey Atterberry (CB, Kosciusko, MS) - One of the top cover corners in the state of Mississippi was in Oxford for the Ole Miss/Georgia game. How did the trip go?

"It was good. I enjoyed it," commented Jamariey Atterberry.

Was the unofficial visit about what he was expecting, better or worse?

"It was better. The fans are great at Ole Miss. They played a good game until late. They are not a bad team. It was very attractive with all of the fans getting into the game."

While watching the ball game, Jamariey had a few observations.

"They have a lot of talent in the secondary. They did a good job. I would have to come in and work hard and fight for playing time. But I love how they play their CB's. I noticed in man coverage, they were not in your face and jamming. Jamming is something that I need to work on. They played loose coverage, so you do not have to worry about jamming if you play there. I doubt I will play basketball this year so I can get a little stronger, something I have got to do."

Did Jamariey get a chance to speak with the Ole Miss coaches?

"I spoke to Coach Hughes, but I talk to him all of the time. That is nothing new. We talked a little football, but I talked to his son Jamison Hughes mostly. We keep in touch all of the time on the phone."

What about the overall atmosphere at Ole Miss?

"Ole Miss is the only other place I have been to besides MSU. The fans at Ole Miss are a lot more loud. They are on their feet the whole game. When they get down, they are still on their feet. It is a great atmosphere there."

Ole Miss has a lot of attractive qualities, but Atterberry remains committed to MSU.

"I am still solid with MSU at the moment. That is just how I grew up. I always liked MSU. I have talked to Coach Orgeron, but I have not had a straight up conversation with him, and I talk to Coach Croom all of the time. I am going to just see how everything goes. Right now, I just want to focus on my season."

Speaking of the season, how is it going for Kosciusko and Jamariey?

"It is going good. I have not played much defense. They are trying to keep me fresh at running back/wide receiver, but I got in some corner this Friday. I played the whole game on defense."

What are his stats for the season?

"I do not know my rushing or receiving yards. In our first game against N' West Rankin, I returned an interception for a 36 yard TD. In the game Friday, I had 2 rushing TD's and 3 pass breakups. I have scored at least a TD in every game."

How would Atterberry rate his play?

"I have been doing a good job, but I have not played as hard as I can. I could be doing a whole lot better. Last game, I had my best game because I have been wanting to play cornerback, so it put a spark in me."

What attracts Jamariey to corner?

"Just shutting people down. That is what I am there for."

What would Atterberry like to work on at corner?

"More so with my techniques. I just need to work on the 1 on 1 stuff, man to man coverage."
