Practice Report: Tuesday

The Ole Miss Rebel football team got back to business today with a full-pad practice that produced the desired Tuesday results. The Rebs got acclimated to Alabama's plays and worked on correcting their mistakes from the Vandy game. Read about it inside.

Ole Miss Coach Ed Orgeron put the Rebels through a vigorous and productive full-pad practice today that left him satisfied with the progress being made.

"We had a very good Tuesday practice and got in some good preparations for Saturday's game at Alabama," said Coach O. "We had a good, physical practice. The guys were very spirited.

"We did a lot of one-on-one stuff that was very good."

Coach O said the Rebels have made a personnel change he thinks will help the team in the long run and maybe immediately.

"We moved (LB) Quentin Taylor to fullback. He did pretty good. He was a good fullback in high school," said O. "Jason Cook was a little beat up in the Vandy game. He's alright, but we need some insurance there. With Robert (Lane) out, and considering the way we use Robert sometimes in the fullback slot, we think Quentin can help us there."

Coach O said WR Dexter McCluster is not practicing, but he will be alright for the Bama game.

Orgeron was asked about the progress of freshman PK Joshua Shene.

"Josh had a great day today. We are going to stick with him. He's 3-5 in field goals this year which is pretty good. He's made some long ones in practice, so we are pleased with him," said O. "I'd like to have an experienced kicker who has made kicks in big games, but we don't and feel like Josh will get there. We know there will be growing pains and we don't know how he will react if he's faced with making the game-winning kick, but we'll see."

The Rebels will pipe in crowd noise tomorrow and Thursday in practice.

"We'll set up the speakers and get the kids acclimated to the noise levels they will hear Saturday the best we can," he explained.

Coach O closed the after-practice press session by stating SS Jamarca Sanford, who missed the Vandy game with an ankle injury sustained early in the Georgia game, will play against Alabama, but he did not say if he will be a starter or a backup or just available for the game if needed.
