Rebels eye juco offensive tackle

Rodney Brisbon (OT, N' West CC, MS) - What makes Mississippi's only 1st Team Preseason All-American (NJCAA) so good?

"I think my quickness in my legs and arms helps me out a lot. I know how to read defenses too," added the 6' 6", 330 N' West CC product, Rodney Brisbon.

Brisbon was a highly regarded high school recruit who fell short with his academics.

"I signed with Alabama (in '05) out of high school. I was going to go to Hargrave, but I decided to come here (N' West CC) instead."

Brisbon was benching 385 out of high school but he still needs to get bigger and stronger.

"I just need to get my strength up and keep getting bigger. That is what it is all about on the next level."

College recruiters have taken notice in this gifted offensive lineman.

"I get calls from all of the teams in the SEC, plus Memphis, UAB, Houston, and Miami."

Which colleges call the most?

"Miami, Ole Miss, just all the teams in the SEC."

Any offers?

"I have verbal offers from Miami, Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Memphis, UAB, Houston, and Mississippi State."

Which colleges never miss a week in their calls?

"Never misses a week? I would say Ole Miss, Miami, Alabama, and Auburn. Tennessee probably calls me about every other week and so does Houston. Mississippi State too."

Which colleges does R.J. want to officially visit?

"Actually, I have tentatively set a visit to Ole Miss for December 1 - 3. I told Eric Nicks that I would go visit with him. I have not planned the others yet. I will look into that after the last game of the season. We still have two more games to go. But I would like to try and visit Miami, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and probably Alabama and Auburn."

Any unofficial visits on tap?

"I am going to try and go to the Army/Alabama game towards the end of the year."

What stands out about Alabama?

"That is who I signed with out of high school, but I am wide open now. Alabama just has that tradition. I lived there almost my whole life. You either grow up an Alabama or Auburn fan."

And what about Brisbon's other home state school, Auburn?

"Basically like Alabama, but it is the other team. That is one of the top rivals in the country."

What stands out about Ole Miss?

"I do not really know much about Ole Miss. That is why I want to visit them."

What are Miami's positives?

"It is just Miami. The players tell me you have to be real good to be recruited by Miami. I was surprised when they started recruiting me, and I was even more surprised when they offered me. The only thing about Miami is that it is so far from home."

What about the Vols?

"I went to the TN/AU game my senior year. The coaches showed me around and I liked it up there. I put them in my Top 2 in high school. I was actually committed to Tennessee for a few months before Alabama changed my mind. They are a great school. You never know, the second time might be a charm."

Brisbon's goal is to get out in December but nothing is certain at this point.
