Juco DB is a wanted man by Ole Miss

Michael Ricks (DB, N' East CC, MS) - One of Ole Miss' key targets to fill one of the defensive back slots has scheduled an official visit with the Rebels.

"Right now, I only have one visit set up, and that is to Ole Miss for December 1 - 3," added the 6' 2", 190 pound back, Michael Ricks.

Michael is interested in the Rebels because of several factors.

"I like the way even though they have a losing record; they play hard. I like their academics, coaching style, and I like how they play a lot of new comers. It is also located close to my house (Courtland, AL)."

Ricks signed with Alabama in February '05 and recommitted to the Tide but has since backed off.

"I just did not think the timing was right for me to be committed. They are still real close, but other opportunities might change my mind."

There a few things that still stick out about the Tide.

"They have the same qualities as Ole Miss except you get a chance to win more titles. They have a real nice tutoring program to keep you focused on your work."

Two more colleges are still in hot pursuit in one of scout.com's Top 10 juco players from the State of Mississippi.

"MSU and Memphis are constantly calling and wanting me to commit. I went down to a MSU game a few weeks back. But I am not sure they are going to win too many games in the near future. That concerns me about them."

One thing certainly stands out about Memphis.

"I know if I sign there I will be a starter next fall. No question about it."

Which position are these schools recruiting Michael to play?

"Mostly cornerback, but most of them just say they like me as an athlete. They think I could play corner or safety. I play safety here, but I love to be on the island."

Is immediate playing time a key factor in Ricks' decision?

"In a way, but I know I have to go work hard for my position. I do not want anything given to me."

Michael had a stellar high school as he had over 1,900 yards of offense as a senior and led the state of Alabama with 16 interceptions. He was later named the Class 1A MVP for his play and also played in MS/AL all-star game.

This season he has 35 solo tackles and 4 interceptions through 7 games at the free safety position.

Ricks is expected to graduate in May.
