Recruiting: DT Devrick Hampton

Devrick Hampton has the potential to grow into the type of run-stuffing defensive tackle the Ole Miss program needs to strengthen the defense against the run. Hampton measured 6-foot-2 and weighed 270 pounds at the Nike Camp held in Tuscaloosa, Alabama this past April. He had few peers among the big men after running the 40-yard dash in a blistering 4.9 seconds and further demonstrating his athleticism by leaping 30.3" in the vertical jump. Are the Rebels in the hunt for this in-state talent?

"I'm really open among the schools recruiting me," said Hampton. "Florida, Louisiana State, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Boston College, and West Virginia are the schools that seem to be the most interested in me."

Hampton can stuff the run but he also produced 18 sacks as a junior. Additionally, he caused three fumbles for the year. Hampton likes the thrill of being the player making the big plays.

"I like being the dominant player on the field," said Hampton. "I like being the hitter and seeing the other guy's face and watching them run after you hit them."

Hampton plays left tackle when he sees duty on the offensive side of the football. The former soccer player attended football camp at Louisiana State this summer. He maintains a 2.6 GPA and will take the ACT for the first time in September. Until then, Hampton will not make a commitment.

"I will make my decision after I qualify because I don't want to say I will come to a school until I know I can," said Hampton.

Greenville opens their season at home against Eastside High School from Cleveland, Mississippi.
