Last Friday Coach Tony Hughes headed to Carthage to evaluate a receiver that is playing football for only his second season.
"Coach Hughes sent me a letter
telling me he was coming to my game," added the 6' 5", 185 pound receiver,
O' Neal Wilder. "I tried to do a little something extra for him because I
have always liked Ole Miss, but I think it messed me up. I did not have my best
O' Neal is what you term as a true athlete as he won the 400
meter race last season in Clarss 3A and has earned all-state in both track and
basketball for the past two years.
"I am also rated as one of the
top 40 senior basketball prospects in the state this year."
delay in the start of his football career?
"I just never really thought
about football that much. I was always so busy with track and basketball. Last
year I decided to give it a try, and I loved it."
O' Neal had 18 catches
for 428 yards and 4 touchdowns as a junior. This season, he has taken it up a
notch and already has 587 receiving yards and 11 TD's.
"I am catching
the ball better. I am focusing in when the ball comes my way and making the catch."
faces Franklin County this Friday in the 2nd round of the playoffs, but Wilder
has had some time to give recruiting some thought.
"Right now, it
is MSU, USM, and Ole Miss. Things will probably change after the Max Emfinger
All-American bowl (January 6th). I should get some more looks after that."
"No sir, but MSU was talking about offering me next week.
Coach Stringer told me they were going to offer me next week."

"Coach Stringer (MSU) and Hopson (USM)."
official visits set up?
"No, not yet. I have been unofficially to
MSU around 4 times and Ole Miss for their homecoming game. I do have one set up
for MSU for December 3rd. Coach Hopson is coming to my house on December 1st,
and he is going to talk to me about setting one up."
What stands out
"I will probably know more when I visit. I just tailgate
with my coach and go to the games. I will know more after my visit."

"I have not just got to visit there a lot. When I
was there, I liked the atmosphere."
