Recruiting: CB LaBrose Hedgemon

Cornerback LaBrose Hedgemon has been somewhat overshadowed by his more high-profile teammate, wide receiver Chad Jackson. Still, Hedgemon is a talented prospect in his own right and college coaches have noticed. Hedgemon, a 5-foot-9, 176-pounder from Hoover, Alabama, has over a dozen offers from Division 1-A programs already and a big senior season could raise the total number even higher. Ole Miss is among the programs giving pursuit and Hedgemon is open to the recruiting process.

"I'm open because new teams keep showing interest," said Hedgemon. "I have scholarship offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Notre Dame, Clemson, West Virginia, Kentucky, Oregon State, Vanderbilt, Colorado, Indiana, North Carolina, North Carolina State, and Ole Miss."

Hedgemon made 32 tackles and eight interceptions as a junior. He enjoys the work required to become a good player and the challenge to prove his ability.

"I like the preparation and training in football," said Hedgemon. "I also like showing people what you've got."

Hedgemon has some interesting bloodlines in his family. He has built his reputation on defense but a famous cousin has made his mark on the offensive side of the football.

"My cousin is Steve McNair," said Hedgemon. "I met him at a family reunion at his ranch in Mississippi. My grandmother's maiden name was Louise McNair."

Hedgemon also competes as a 200-meter sprinter on the track team. Additionally, he has a 2.9 GPA and a score of 21 on the ACT. Hedgemon attended summer football camps at Auburn, Louisiana State, and North Carolina.

Hoover opens their season at home against Lee High School from Montgomery, Alabama.
