Dion Gales is ready to do his thing at OM

Dion Gales (DL, MS Gulf Coast CC, MS) - Dion had a tough sophomore season after being selected to the Preseason 2006 NJCAA All-American Team.

"I messed my ankle up and missed four games and most of another one. I basically played half of a season, which was disappointing to me, because I really wanted to leave here on a high note. I worked harder this offseason than I ever have. I really wanted to be a leader on the team, but it is hard to lead when you are on the sideline," stated Dion Gales.

The 6' 7", 285 pound defensive lineman collected 35 tackles, 2 for losses, and 2 1/2 sacks during the four and half games of action but was left off of the post season awards due to his missed time.

"I am not worried about those awards. I just wanted to win a championship here. That is the only thing I regret. I mean, we were so close last year and then I think we let our guard down after we got beat by Pearl River CC. That let the air out of sail. We just never recovered. But hopefully I can get a championship at Ole Miss, and if God blesses me, I can go on to the league after that."

Gales signed with Ole Miss out of high school and recommitted to Ole Miss last February, but there have been times where maybe some doubts had crept into his mind. Could those doubts be gone?

"I am going to sign with Ole Miss in February. I am set. Their coaches came and saw me Wednesday night, and we went over everything that will be expected out of me, and I am excited about what is in store for me."

What is in store?

"I am going to be coming hard off of the edge (at DE). They want to get bigger on their line, and they think I add size and athleticism to their team. I have been impressed with the other players they have recruited on the line and what they have coming back. That was one of the things that I was really looking at; was I going to get any help. I watched some of their games this season and you could just see their young guys on the line getting better and better and #90 (Brandon Jenkins) was really balling by the end of the year. We are going to have a big time defensive line next year. I am ready to ball with them."

When will Dion visit Ole Miss?

"I will be up there on the second weekend of January."

Anymore visits on tap?

"No, I don't have anything set up. The same old schools still call like Oklahoma State, MSU, Houston, LSU, and Florida."

Dion had a successful Fall semester in the classroom and is inching closer and closer to his degree.

"I only have 12 more hours to go. I'll be there (at Ole Miss) in June."
