Johnny Brown earns 1st Team All-State at CB

Johnny Brown(RB, Charleston, MS) - Johnny is one of the more accomplished runners in the state of Mississippi.Brown has rushed for more 2, 500 yards and 50 TD's in two and half seasons, but it is at defensive back where his head coach believes he is best suited for on the next level.

"Johnny's the best defensive player we've had since I've been here. He's a really smart player. He's fast enough to play corner, which is where I think he'll play in college.," stated Perry Liles to the Clarion Ledger.

In fact, Johnny was named 1st Team All-State at CB despite missing 7 games of action due to a thigh injury and high ankle sprain.

Brown had 48 tackles in 6 games of action, and on the offensive side of the ball, he rushed for 771 yards, 94 reception yards, and totaled 14 TD's.

What did Johnny think about his play this season?

"Terrible. To miss over half my season was just frustrating. I had a thigh contusion and then when I got over that, I sprained my ankle pretty good. It was just a tough way to go out, to be honest," stated Johnny Brown. Not being able to play 100% in one game during your senior season, man, it was tough. I played through the pain at the end, but I was no where near myself."

What hurt more for Brown was the fact that Charleston did not repeat as State Champs.

"Yea, we were looking forward to getting another one. All the pieces were in place, and then I go out and get hurt in summer drills. We got put out by Nettleton 14-12 in the 3rd round. It just kind of typified the whole season for me."

So where does this talented youngster see himself playing at Ole Miss?

"Where ever they want me, really. I will play where ever they need me the most. I keep hearing DB, which is fine with me. I just want to help the team win."

Does Johnny still feel solid with his commitment to Ole Miss?

"Oh yes, 100%. I have a lot of family who lives in Oxford, and it is close to home. They have a good staff, and I can come in there and have a chance to contribute in the SEC as a freshman. You have to like that. They have everything I need."

The Ole Miss head coach came by Johnny's house right before the dead period started.

"Coach Orgeron and Hughes came by and visited last week. They talked to me about my scholarship and we went over my major and got my official visit lined up. I am going up there on the (January) 12th. I can't wait. I hear they are a lot of fun."

Brown claims a 2.4 GPA / 17 ACT.
